I got new shoes!
Yesterday I went on a shopping spree. (Haha, I found a great way to freak people out: I just had to say "I'm meeting a friend to go shoe shopping" and everyone would stare at me like they suspected I'm a pod person.) But it's true, I went shopping for shoes and got
My new Five Fingers shoes - where every toe gets its own place. I can't wait to take them for a spin. I've already walked around in them for a while and they feel very nice indeed; as close as you get to walking barefoot (sweatier, though, alas). Tomorrow, weather permitting, I'm gonna take them for a run and see how that works. I've always done a lot of walking around barefoot which is handy; you gotta roll your feet differently than when wearing regular running shoes, otherwise they can be counterproductive. But when done right, lots of runners swear by running barefoot. I read about it a while back and had been meaning to try it ever since. Actually have been walking barefoot a lot in order to prepare my feet for it; I hadn't even heard of these shoes until
naye posted about them the other day.
And while on the topic of shopping, I ordered me a shiny bouldering mat because I've been more and more tempted to climb places I shouldn't climb without extra protection. Seems like a wise investment.

(As an added bonus, they're exactly what my toes want after being squished into climbing shoes. *g*)

Very interesting to read that your knee problem improved so quickly! I don't know if I imagined it but I went on my second run with them yesterday and I noticed that afterwards my back felt great for the rest of the day. Less tense. That's quite unusual, it's always tense. Of course that could've been a coincidence. I don't expect my back problem to be miraculously fixed with these shoes but if barefoot running helped even a little bit, I wouldn't complain.
In any case I really enjoy feeling the texture of the ground you're running on. While at the same time knowing I don't have to worry about stepping on thorn or shard of glass. It's fun.
