So, inspired by the Flowchart of Fail I decided to expand on my previous "Fuck You She's Awesome" post. This is off the top of my head so I bet I forgot a number of characters I really want to include [eta: have since edited in a bunch more]... anyway, these chicks kick ass in various ways and I love them.

p.s. The rules of the original meme apply: I genuinely like these characters; some of them I adore. You’re free to not adore them or have issues with the way they’re written but I don’t really need to hear about those.

Woo, awesome!

I'm stopping by partly to tell you how much I've been enjoying your FMA recs tag. I finished Brotherhood a couple weeks ago, but finding The Good Fic is taking a bit of digging. You are helpful, and have good taste. :)

I've read some of fma_ladyfest. "Mine to Use" and "Building Blocks" are my favourites so far.

I have found you and scanned down your list of tags to "Fuck You She's Awesome" because it suits my mood at the moment.

Of course, I do a shout out to Scully, Buffy and Xena, but I am not sure if I'm overlooking Kate Beckett on this list, but she is also awesome. I have just recently started a rewatch of Castle and I was reminded of how impressed I was by Stana Katic in that roll. When I first tuned in back in the day, it was for Nathan Fillon, just to support him a bit and I was like...seriously, they cast HER? Physically, she's a super model lightweight in the wrong shoes and designer outfits, but the delivery of her lines and the respect that they let the all male crew hand out to her is wonderful. Also, she has sensitive depths as well as kick-ass bravado.

In an episode I watched just last night Katic had to deliver this steely-eyed line about hunting down Tahmoh Penikett's Black Ops Vigilante guy and on the face of it the whole scene was ludicrous and yet, I definitely believed her. I also loved that her origin story wasn't "I was abused by some man and got strong." She is the hunter. I feel like the best female heroines have an origin story centered in their own characters.

If you can find the time, I think you would enjoy it. Rob Bowman from the X-Files was involved with it and that was another one of the reasons I gave it a shot. I clearly remember my initial reaction to Stana Katic in the role of Beckett as it caused me an eye-roll headache. But she is went on to justify that casting, completely. The entire cast turned out to be better than I imagined they could be. Nathan Fillon is the weakest link, but his sense of comedy works well for the character.

If you decide to give the show a try, there is an ongoing mythology in it, involving the unsolved murder of Beckett's mom who was a social worker. It takes the X-Files sort of approach to having mythology episodes mixed in with MOW, or maybe that is Crime of the Week (COW) ones. A really good sample episode to watch is Season 4, Episode 6 "Demons" which gives you a nice example of the interplay of characters and a general feel for the show, without touching on deeper character issues or ongoing arcs.
