I don't think I've ever said that before: It's too hot to go rollerblading. It's too hot to go bicycling, even. I would love nothing more than to go swimming but the canal is at the opposite side of town. So I filled the tub with cold water and dunked myself in, and that is a nice substitute. *thumbs up* Now we have our own little indoor pool.

Oh, yes. There are free open air concerts all over town this weekend and I could be watching the footbal match somewhere on the street, but I simply refuse to move. *melts*

I don't even have a tub, only (unfortunately right now) a lot of sun, and being directly under the roof the temperature is awful. No way to create a cross-breeze either, because all my windows are on the same side. I've taken two cool showers today already, and I need to watch my poor rats too and give them ways to cool themselves with wet towels and the clay wine cooler I have for them, because they like heat even less than humans.

Yeah, temperature dropped quite a bit here tonight as well with some wind, more than the previous two nights, during which I definitely felt the city microclimate effects under which it did not feel significantly cooler at all, even at two a.m. or so when I finally fell asleep.

An hour ago or so my rats have finally stopped being inanimate lumps trying to maximize contact of their belly with the damp and cooler surfaces I provided for them. It looks really quite odd to see them try to spread out as much as possible and as individuals when normally they like to sleep curled up and preferably in a huddle.

But I feel for them. I also have a very narrow temperature range I'm comfortable in, which usually doesn't work out too badly, living in a coastal climate with wet cool summers and wet warm winters, but there are a few weeks every year that are unpleasant.

I think we're in the same heatwave! We're lucky to have a (small) outdoor pool nearby, but I thought I was going to melt on the way home. It's a 20 min walk with no shade whatsoever.
