For a while, I've been thinking about doing a regular-ish graphic novel rec. Like, maye one graphic novel a week. A couple of people have expressed interest in such; let me further test the waters with a poll (hey, my first poll! \o/) (no idea if that poll will make it through the crossposter... let's find out...)

I can think of many highly reccable works in English, but a lot of really great stuff has never been translated, unfortunately. Don't answer that second question unless you're interested in the recs... this isn't to evaluate the flist's mad foreign language skillz ;). It just wouldn't make much sense to type up a rec for something that only one or two people would be able to read.

can I just interrupt the regular programming to share an apparently really unpopular fannish opinion?
Okay, here goes *clears throat`*

I love SGA!

I know, I'm a bit of a rebel. Bwahahaaahg :P

The fic is amazing and every bit as good as everybody promised, but I don't just love the fic, I love the canon too... fell madly in love with the show during the first ep I watched and I still love it. I think it's a fun show, some obvious flaws notwithstanding. It's incredibly inspiring for me as an artist; it has inspired the best fic I've ever read in any fandom; the characters have taken on a life of their own in my head. I like season five, a lot. I love my crazy space show. And if there's no movie, I'm gonna be incredibly disappointed because there are so many stories yet untold.

I'm not the least bit interested in arguing any of this. If anyone comes into my LJ right now to explain to me how the show sucks or how they hope there'll be no movie, I will most likely kick them out. (However, if you've drunk the crazy water too and love our crazy space show, come in, grab a seat.)

Man, I wish I read German well at all but a year of the language is highly unlikely to be enough to get me through any graphic novels you might rec. :-) Whereas with French I have a fighting chance.

I'd love to read more graphic novels. I can't manage German at all anymore, but French would be great.

I like SGA, too. I especially love the first seasons, for the characters (I loved Ford).

I'd love to see the recs. I really enjoyed the last one I remember you reccing, Muchacho. In theory I ought to be able to read French after three years in school and another year I stuck with it after high school (then my uni stopped offering free language lessons to non-language students >:( ), but I'm pretty much hopelessly out of practice.

I can rec you some good original German comics though.

I don't have any really *new* German comic recs, because the last years inconsiderate online friends got me sucked into US superhero comics *g* which I didn't use to read at all for the first two decades of being a comic fan, and I have only so much money to spend (and unfortunately it's not very much), so most stuff I know has been out a few years.

I really like Lillian Mousli's comics in particular 'Teufel' und 'Liebe in Zeiten der Drachen' and 'Stray Cats'. The latter is also (under the same title iirc) available in English but it's originally in German.

I also like Isabel Kreitz's horror and crime comics, like Mabuse. I don't know what she's been doing most recently but I liked her genre stuff a few years back. Also she did that Currywurst novel adaptation Die Entdeckung der Currywurst?, and I don't know the novel but I quite enjoyed the comic. She has also done cartoons. Not my absolute favorite comics ever, but very readable, and while with the very earliest stuff the b/w art was still visibly improving compared to the later, I like her style.

I also remember a sort of meta comic in two parts that came out from Carlsen a few years back, that I enjoyed, but I have to dig in my shelves to find the title. It was slightly pretentious and self-referential, iirc, but still enjoyable.

I'd love me some graphic novel recs. It's been years since I read any, and I wouldn't know where to start. German is out, I'm afraid, but I could probably enjoy one in French (it's the speaking thing I find hard).

And re:SGA - word!! I love my shiny space show so much!! It's strange to think that would make you feel like an outsider in the fandom!
