[profile] sticksandsnark Art: The Woods Are Haunted, Dark And Deep for [personal profile] less_star

For [livejournal.com profile] less_star, I went with prompt #2: h/c (I'm especially fond of Rodneywhump, but anything goes)

Oh no, spooky green-eyed things are coming for them! I love the little campfire; the shape reminds me of Atlantis.

Lovely piece! I adore the way Teyla is watching over hurt!Rodney!

I love this! The colours are wonderful - the bright red blood on the snow, the yellow flames -- and I adore Teyla's watchful, wary expression. And her arm all protective around Rodney's shoulder... lovely.

Ooo! I LIKE this. Great subject and superb graphic novel style rendering. :)

That's seriously fantastic. The colours, the light and shading, Teyla both anchoring and shielding Rodney, those spooky green eyes stalking them... brilliant.

This is fantastic. I swear I have seen that exact expression on Rachel Luttrell's face.

Beautifully rendered! Dark, but so pretty at the same time (colors, texture, balance).

This is gorgeous, and the title is probably more amusing to me than it should be.

Wow, this is really lovely! Such great detail and emotion! Like others, I love the menacing mystery yellow eyes gleaming in the mist. I also love how protective Teyla is of Rodney, and how trusting he is of her. Their body postures are so very natural for the situation.

I'm not sure if you were going for this idea, but I also thought that since Rodney seems to still be bleeding from his arm (not yet bandaged), although his leg is splinted quite nicely, that this is perhaps the second attack or moment of injury they've had to deal with. Perhaps the yellow eyes have been following them, sensing that Rodney is injured and therefore easy prey? Ooo, gives me the shivers.

Your Teyla is so brave and so very Teyla-like! The scuffled snow with fresh blood and Teyla's posture makes it look like they've just settled down from the second attack. Eeeee! Rodney's downcast head suggests his usual, "I'm gonna die here" fatalism, and I can almost hear him muttering something like, "I don't think you're going to be able to stop them next time - you're almost out of bullets. You . . . you need to go now." Rodney would not want Teyla to go down protecting him to no avail. And of course, Teyla would reply, "I will not leave you, Rodney!" So very H/C! Because, of course, we all know that once she was out of bullets, she would use her knife, burning sticks from the fire, and her hand-to-hand skills until she had nothing left or Rodney was dead.

I loved how another commenter noted that the fire has the shape of Atlantis - very true, and very, very cool.

There is so much in this picture from which to build a story! Hope the yellow eyes are afraid of fire and that John and Ronon are on the way! Thanks so much for sharing your talent! chev

This reminds me a lot of a scene in an episode of X-Files, right down to the glowing eyes.

It's really beautifully done. What did you use?

[identity profile] carolyn-claire.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, and he has a splint, too! *notices* That's much more than 1000 words of picture, right there.

[identity profile] lenkti.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
This is wonderful. I love the detail: the animal eyes and Rodney's splint. Marvellous.

This is, as always, so lovely! I especially love the little details -- the snow melting back from the fire, the makeshift splint, and the hazy trees in the background.

*is in awe of your art skills* I love the color palette that you've chosen for this drawing -- if I may, what medium is it in?

Other posters have picked out everything else that I love, the trees melting into the murk, the eyes, the line detail, the way that they're huddled together and Teyla is protecting Rodney. *admires it all more*

I love the color palette that you've chosen for this drawing -- if I may, what medium is it in?

I scanned my inked drawing and printed it onto ordinary wrapping paper. The coloring is all acrylic. I used diluted acrylic washes for the background, and undiluted color for the rest.

I love the way the wrapping paper makes the colors shine. I went out and bought another batch. :)

Wow, thank you for the gracious feedback.

I'm not sure if you were going for this idea, but I also thought that since Rodney seems to still be bleeding from his arm (not yet bandaged), although his leg is splinted quite nicely, that this is perhaps the second attack or moment of injury they've had to deal with. Actually that's pretty much how I was envisioning things happening!
(Only the fire resembling the shape of Atlantis was entirely coincidental, I didn't even see it untit it was pointed out. :)

Rodney's downcast head suggests his usual, "I'm gonna die here" fatalism, and I can almost hear him muttering something like, "I don't think you're going to be able to stop them next time - you're almost out of bullets. Heee. It's so much fun for me to see that stuff written out.
