vid rec [SGA]: Sweet Apocalypse
vid rec: Sweet Apocalypse by
zap99nad (Artist: Moby)
Action/Drama, AU; can be read as gen or McShep; Characters: Sheppard, McKay, supporting characters: Kolya, Elizabeth, Carson, Wraith
Summary: Kolya is a bounty hunter working for the Wraith in exchange for a steady supply of Enzymes. John's next on the list. This is what happened...
Constructed Reality, very convincingly done. A cool, fun, atmosperic vid with great storytelling and pacing. I enjoyed watching it a lot; it was much like reading fic.
Page seven of The Long Way Home is inked, here's a little outtake. Not the funny kind of outtake... more like the 'guh, I'm an idiot' kind - I got carried away while inking and my thumbs tend to be on the vague side... just a few squiggly lines to indicate camera angle, balloon placement, not so much with the details. It didn't occur to me to check the script while inking, and when I finally did I noticed that the line in that panel has to go to Rodney. Ah, maybe I can find a home for my Shep someplace else.

It's amnesty month at
sga_flashfic, and though I didn't find the perfect prompt to give meaning to my poor, half-finished McShep gen picture, I did get an idea for another prompt which I really like. It's a kind of Atlantis/Sleepy Hollow pastiche and I see the scene crystal-clear before my inner eye. So if time allows, I'll try to squeeze that in somehow before I go back to the comic. It's just one panel after all, albeit a fairly large, complex one. Still, could be done in a day or two. Now I only have to find a day or two.
Once more I'm feeling this bizarre disconnect with the fandom because, once again, I quite enjoyed this week's Stargate episode (Infection), only to come online and find that most of the fandom (or at least my corner of it) is currently watching a different show than I am. I guess for the remainder of the season the only way to go is read the friends list heavily filtered on days following new episodes. I'm not making the mistake again of reading random reviews linked on the newsletter. Seriously, every time I see someone bash Kelleran angel loses its wings I want to make Keller fanart. And I got enough ideas as it is.
(This mini-rant, by the way, was brought to you by LJ blacking out just as I was about to post.)

I enjoyed Infection a lot. I'm feeling generally warm and fuzzy towards my show at the minute; since it's all finishing on Jan 9, I find myself getting nostalgic-in-advance for things, so I'm all gooey and, Awww, this might be the last time I get to see the team running around a wraith hive getting attacked.
SGA/Sleepy Hollow sounds really intriguing!

I'll definitely try, I like how it turned out. I may be able to fit it in on page eight. Oh, by the way, I think I have an idea how to solve the tricky page/scene transition at the bottom of page eight. This panel may fit there.
I'll mail you a preview of page seven once I'm done with adding the final touches in Photoshop.
I enjoyed Infection a lot.
Yay, that makes me irrationally happy... *clings* :oD
I don't get why people don't like this ep... it had Todd, after all, who keeps being fascinating and multi-faceted. And it had that very interesting Todd/Sheppard dynamic. I liked the idea of the infected hive too (though, yeah, it was the first idea that sprang to my mind and it should've occurred to them sooner, but really: cool idea.)

I was amazed at the lack of reviews actually. I only had one on my flist and it was fairly positive I think. I didn't read it, because I haven't seen Infection yet; I'm saving these last eps like chocolate. :)

Yes! It was a cool episode. I mean, there was Sheppard with Todd, which is already a win, the plot was fairly cool, it had Woolsey, Ronon wanting to kill Wraith, Keller actually fit the plot (my biggest issue with Carson was when he got to be action hero in somewhat random episodes were it made no sense for him to be there) and it had some cuteness with Rodney and Keller... seriously I don't get why people are so disgruntled.

You're certainly not alone where you stand, but you're right, it probably will just mean a bit of editing and maybe some pointing towards journals where there's shared squee to be found. :)

(I didn't looooooove the last ep, but I didn't hate it, and it had a lot of fun moments. It feels like people are really wanting to hate the show now no matter what--my theory is it's a defense mechanism because of the end coming so soon)

I think
And in an effort to continue to confuse everyone, I say you should do Keller fanart. And make it poster-sized. Just 'cause.

Yeah, that was my biggest gripe, plot-wise: it was really, really obvious what was going on and they should've come to that conclusion much earlier than they did. But Todd! I love Todd. I wonder if that's the last we'll see of him. (You'd think that by now the Atlantis folk would have figured out that using genetically engineered viruses on the wraith never ends well... but, no.)
I'd been thinking about that transition at the bottom of p8: I'll be really interested to see what you've come up with. And, yes, please do send a preview of p7! I could use a fun distraction at the minute.

I'm the same with the SGA eps, BTW. I'm pretty much a McShepper at heart and I haven't been bothered by Keller (or Keller/Rodney) at all. Like I told someone else, I think I just need to see Rodney happy.

Right now I'm at a place where I get actually pissed off if I see any kind of Keller bashing, and that's just not a good place to be. Ommmm.

I don't know if it's because the show's about to end, but it really feels like many people are determined to find things to hate and only focus on those, particularly when it comes to Keller.

I actually enjoyed the episode in it's entirety, including the one scene that I'm sure everyone is probably grumbling about. (Which probably confuses everyone who read my last so-less-than-squee post to no end. Ah, well. I don't claim to make much sense.)
Really? Huh, that is surprising. I mean, I didn't read that post of yours ('cause you put squee-harshing warnings in the cut tag) but I can guess what it was about.

You rebel! :)
If I wasn't so short on time, I would've already done it. *is feeling rebellious, too*

Mental health break from LJ? Insultate yourself with only the people you know that love that character? Drinking heavily and smoking pot? :D

I'm so pissed off, my hands are actually trembling. And only a handful of people seem to find anything wrong with that. Cuz it's,y you know, Keller.
Rather than taking a fandom break I'm considering posting about it. See, at the moment it looks like everyone in my corner is talking about withdrawing from fandom but I don't want to be driven away; I like it here.

Your journal and you have EVERY right to say what you want to say. If you're angry though I would probably recommend writing it down, walking away, reading it and then seeing if you want to post it as is - don't forget that you're probably only going to convince the convinced, but isn't that the way of the world. :)
But I do recommend (from past experience) that rather than making general sweeping statements that you link to the comments in question and quote them - up to you of course.

I've seen this argument but I find it unconvincing because it is based on a premise I disagree with: I see nothing inherently wrong with Jennifer's character. I don't view her as a Mary Sue, I don't view her a male fantasy. Her writing is uneven at times, yes, but I can look past that because I like the character.

Good advice, and that's what I'd normally do. But I've let this stuff fester too long.
Yeah, I'm not gonna convince anybody. But I want to vent.

And that's the problem - if our baseline for discussion isn't the same then everyone's going to be holding two very different conversations. I have major problems with how TPTB write Teyla/Sam/Weir et al because they're basically exactly the same archytpe but with slight variations, I have major problems with their character of Keller because, well, I want bring that on to your journal, :D, I think the meta for the show is a bit of a mess, but besides that I've found things in the show to love.
On the bright side at least you'll have got what you want from canon, even if you might not entirely have got what you wanted from fanon - but you can change that with mouse clicks, unfortunately people who are hoping for change to the show are out of luck, heh. *stares out rainy window*

Yeahhh... after a little bit of time, I can see how it probably appears like I'm one of the vehement anti-McKay/Keller people. My feelings on it have been fairly neutral, at least in the sense that I kind of tip back and forth depending on the episode. I actually enjoyed the elements of it in Tracker, First Contact/Lost Tribe, and even enjoyed a good portion of "Brain Storm". There was just a few parts in the end that happened to push some very sensitive, personal buttons of mine, which set me off in a bad way.
If I wasn't so short on time, I would've already done it. *is feeling rebellious, too*
*sad* Poor Keller, she needs fannish love. Stupid time restraints.
I wish I could invent a time dilation machine, so that I could have enough time to sleep, watch my shows, and write stories (including one with a not-quite background McKay/Keller pairing, believe it or not.) Sadly, I nearly failed physics in high school, so chances of it ever seeing the light of day are slim.

*beams* Thank you.
Haven't managed to further work on the page but maybe I can color it on the weekend. (All this meta is just so time-consuming, which is why I usually stay out of it.)
