§%$!& email!

Apparently in recent weeks my mailer has been losing mails, both incoming and outgoing, in many cases without bothering to send bounce messages. (Perhaps to make up for that, it sometimes sends bounce messages even when the mail got through.) Anyway, if anyone has mailed me and never got a reply: it's not me being bitchy, it's Citykom.

My complete sympathies. I know just how you feel. My ISP doesn't ever have any email problems. I know, because when I call and tell them there is a problem, they kindly let me know that the server is running smoothly. Funny thing though, every time I have called, the problem suddenly goes away. Which either means that the last 4 times the email screwed up and it got fixed just after I called was sheer coincidence, or that no one else bothers to call them.

Hey, what a coincidence, that's what mine said last time I called.

Well, that's where the similarities end. ;)

I sent you an email which bounced and then I replied to a comment you left me on LJ when I returned from Outer Mongolia. It was along the lines of yes, you can archive stuff for BBF, etc.

Did you get the email, the comment, both, or neither?

I got both, the email and the comment notification. I have no idea why it told you the mail bounced. That's happened at least one more time.

It's the bloody spam, that's the problem. It's ruining email. Providers get so paranoid that they start filtering and bouncing every other mail. Heard an executive say, if this gets worse we'll have to go back to fax and phone. ;p

I hope that, rather than doing that, they'll finally change the laws and make spamming properly illegal. Couple of juicy fines, couple of months behind bars, problem solved.
