comic: The Long Way Home, by Rheanna and Astrid

Two weeks ago during my week off, I was sitting in my freshly painted room, feeling vaguely restless, and realized that I really missed having a comic to work on. So I emailed [livejournal.com profile] rheanna27 and asked if she would be interested in collaborating on one. Luckily for me, she was, and a couple of days later she mailed me a kick-ass script. :o) Seriously, I'm so excited about illustrating it that I have to practically tear myself away from it. Page one is finished and posted below... the other eight pages are already sketched and I really hope it won't take me that long to update. [eta: now COMPLETE]

Title: The Long Way Home
Author: [livejournal.com profile] rheanna27, Artist: [livejournal.com profile] astridv

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] counteragent for script beta and [livejournal.com profile] jennytork for the summary.

[eta: [livejournal.com profile] rheanna27 has posted the script for this comic and some behind-the-scenes musings over at her LJ, for those interested in the process of making comics.]

Eeeeeee! New comic! So excited!!

And also - OOPS. Well. That can't be good? Um. Oh, team. What have you gotten yourselves into this time? ♥

The scrip cracked me up (Satedan proverbs! Pegasus superstition!), and the art is gorgeous. The sense of space is absolutely breathtaking. Especially in the last panel, with the sky and plain and the beautiful mountains...! As usual, your characters look fantastic - just like themselves, and so wonderfully animate. I'm also very fond of the inclusion of sound effects for the gate opening, and going through it.

Yay! Can't wait to read the next page, now!

Astrid, it looks really good. I will look forward to seeing the rest of it.

OH SNAP. That's not good!

Love the color, the landscapes, and the proverbs made me snicker. Can't wait for more!

Squeee! An awesome and intriguing opening! (I noticed though that you didn't draw Ronon's tattoo on the left arm, if it is set in season five, it ought to be visible. Sorry for the nitpicking, the art in general is gorgeous.)

I knooow. Second time I'm forgetting that tatoo. I'd been meaning to add it but only noticed once I posted. I'm gonna fix that later; I usually go back a few times to fix details in my comic pages because there's always something I forgot. I also want to make one or two of the balloons a little bit larger, since they take up much less space than I thought they would.

As Rodney would say, "We're so screwed!"

I'm pleased you like it!

Very glad you like it. It's a great story to illustrate.

Plus, it thrills me that I finished the whole page, from pencil to posting, in about a day. That's a very decent rate for me. Okay, it's freakishly fast for me. ;) It gives me reason to hope it won't be that long between updates, like with the previous ones. *fingers crossed*

The scrip cracked me up (Satedan proverbs! Pegasus superstition!),

It cracked me up as I was reading it, too... the dry way Ronon delivers that line.

Especially in the last panel, with the sky and plain and the beautiful mountains...!

All Rheanna - I just translated it onto paper.

I'm also very fond of the inclusion of sound effects for the gate opening, and going through it.

Heh. I noticed the cute little 'plop' it makes whenever something enters a gate, and couldn't resist. Normally I'm wary of too many sound effects but I like these, too.

OH YAY SO MUCH YAY I AM SO EXCITED!

(I just love your work... and this looks terrific... and also? It took me about 20 years to figure out what 'a stitch in time saves nine' means....)

Speaking of nit-picky things - Ronon's also missing his gun/holster.

I love the comic! It's lovely.

Oh my god, what a set up! And your art work is, as always, brilliant. I'm beyond impressed. Thank you!

Oh noes. Alternate reality.

Beautifully drawn as usual, Astrid. :)

I actually rather like the balloons because they emphasize the huge emptiness of the landscape along with the dwarfed people, in the horizontal pictures with balloons especially.
