rec: Firefox add-ons
[eta: in the new configuration, the URL bar actually works better than before.
Edited out some unnecessary changes.]
linkage of the day: If you're as annoyed as I am with the shiny new "Smart" Location Bar Firefox 3 comes with, here's a quick and easy fix that reverts the URL bar back to the FF2 version, at least in parts. I no longer have the urge to kick FF3 off my hard drive and re-install version 2.
Oldbar makes the location (URL) bar look like Firefox 2.
Hide Unvisited Hides pages (bookmarks) that you haven't visited (since deleting or clearing history) from showing in the AwesomeBar. I installed the older version in both cases, and so far it's been running smoothly.
Furthermore, in about:config (just type 'about:config' in the address bar) set browser.urlbar.matchBehaviour = 2 (default 1)
Particularly the last two helped remove a good chunk of the links unrelated to the URL being typed; links that just happened to have the letter I was typing appear somewhere in the middle of the URL or title.
I'm so very, very behind on answering comments on my last post, but I really appreciate every one! I'll try to do some catching up. But: my taxes are finally finished, and none too soon. (The roommate has declared that I'm not allowed to gush about the status of my taxes at home as it reminds her she still hasn't done hers.) I even managed to squeeze in some archive testing at OTW. And colored a few more panels of the comic. And now I can finally go and read those Big Bang fics that I've already formatted and ready for print.
