Uh, I didn't want to post any more on this, honest, but then I came across this followup article, and the last sentence made me laugh and laugh.

Mallozzi and co executive producer Paul Mullie will write the movie, Sci Fi and MGM said. Mallozzi also said he expected the entire Atlantis cast to be in the movie, plus “a certain gaunt and pallid flowing-locked guest star,” apparently referring to former cast member Amanda Tapping.

(The rest is just sciffi president Howe rambling on about fans being content with getting their "next fix of the Stargate franchise". Ah well.)

Ahem, sosorry... I'll get back to posting fanart ASAP.

I think in fandom, it pays to be careful about what folks could consider spoilers on a bad day. & ;-) I don't exclude myself there (although I don't mind casting spoilers, only plot ones).

But yes, this interview's even more ridiculous than the previous ones. And that's saying a lot, considering it involves the Stargate geek squad.

I have no idea how that writer could possibly have come to that bizarre conclusion. Perhaps s/he has seen neither Amanda nor the show.

I still vividly remember that pic you did of Ronon and Todd lurking in ambush by moonlight. If you wanted to build that out into a full-length adventure, SGA fandom would owe you a debt of eternal gratitude. :-)

Mm. I'm not sure I want to revisit that one since it works so well as a standalone piece. But Ronon & Todd doing a sort of dysfunctional buddy movie thing, that could be fun.

Well, first I have to find the time to finish the one I'm working on. I'd only need two or three days, but there's always something that gets in the way. And I still have to do my taxes by the end of the month. >_<

I get so livid when I read these articles. "Rising production cost and the steep decline of the dollar are the reason to discontinue SGA". WTF does that mean? That Stargate Universe in miraculously going to reverse the dollar's decline?

I read that paragraph several times, trying to figure out what went on in that writer's head. The only explanation I can find is that they skimmed Mallozzi's entry, zoomed in on 'flowing-locked', remembered that Amanda already guest-starred, and copypasted the whole shebang without reading it. In any case, it's possibly the most ridiculous thing I've seen in a while.

Well, except Howe's statement above about the franchise fix. Will they ever get that we're in love with characters, not franchises? Only time will tell.

Well, I figure the young and desperate explorers will be played by young and desperate actors. Cheaper to sack the established cast and start over with newbies, maybe. blechh.

Still might bite them in the ass, considering they're discarding a show with an established fanbase and sound ratings for something that may very well tank.

You know, I was going to give SGU the benefit of the doubt, I really was. After all, our response to the cancellation of SGA must pretty much be identical to that of the SG-1 fans, when their show was canceled in favor of SGA and look how utterly wonderful SGA turned out to be. But SGA ran concurrent with SG-1 for three years. And Atlantis was ground breaking compared to a SciFi show set on a space ship, lost in deep space, attacked by your random alien!

And then to add insult to injury and call the current fanbase "slightly too old" for the Stargate franchise - I have no words for that. Way to alienate your fanbase, Howe.

I think I was most upset by Howe saying that we'd have to mourn and then get over it. Jerk.

Also, what does he mean by "storytelling that is more for the late 2000s than it is for the 1990s"? What an insult to SGA and to the writers of the show, who have given us some amazing and, thankyouverymuch, contemporary and relatable characters and storylines! I, personally, don't think I'm going to "relate" better to a younger cast. Ick.

amireal's project? At the very least, a way for us to say "Well, f*ck you too."

Maybe Claudia Black, who is sometimes a bit too lean for my taste.

I watched 'The Shrine' on DVR -- *very* good.

It's a crying shame that the SGA writers couldn't have been producing more stories of that caliber.

It's also a shame that the writers almost certainly won't let Rodney mellow a little (some, not to much!) as the result of his experience -- IRL I don't see how such a thing couldn't, particularly that there are the tapes to see of himself. SGA would go right back to status quo ante.

Maybe McKay just needs a Paxil or Lexapro prescription ;)

Regarding SG-1, I think you will enjoy it, at least the first 3-4 seasons before it started getting more stale. Back then they did know how to do the occasional more character-driven ep and the Wr-- I mean Go'auld ;) storyline wasn't so tired. Somewhere around S5 IMO the characters got more 2D again with the writers less willing to rock the boat with them.
