Anyone know how long it takes to get from Tofino (Vancouver Island) to Seattle, using public transport? It looks like only six or seven hours judging by the map, but it's hard to tell.
Depends on which transport you take. If you take the Victoria Clipper, it should only be about three hours or so. http://www.seattleattractions.com/clipper.html It will dump you off downtown Seattle by Pikes Market.
You could also take the Greyhound, but that will take longer since you have to stop at every little spot along I5. There is also a train service. Amtrak has some specials from Seattle to Vancouver, but you'd have to take a ferry to the city first. http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Amtrak/am2Route/Vertical_Route_Page&c=am2Route&cid=1080842092705&ssid=135
Amtrak is notoriously slow and the point about Greyhound is far too true.
(I'm trying to remember how long it took us to get to Vancouver Island from Seattle via car last time, but it's been a while. I think it might have been as much as five or six hours, without the public transit delays.)
The clipper sounds perfect, particularly if it stops by Pike's which is exactly where my hostel is located. Since I'll be backpacking, that's a definite plus!
Wow, three hours sounds pretty fast. But that's to Victoria, I assume, plus a couple hours to Tofino? In any case, looks like it's definitely doable in a day without rushing myself.
If you're gonna be in Seattle, let me know!
Will do... always handy to have a local for tips on what to see. :)
That should be no problem, there're buses running on the island. Or maybe I carpool with someone at the hostel; it's usually easy to find someone going your direction, particularly since there are only two or three possible destinations from Tofino.
I'll probably stop in Victoria for a night; it's a beautiful city and I just love Miniture World... I've seen it twice already but I'd really like to see the exhibition once more.
There's a ferry service between Seattle and Victoria, which is very convenient.
I love B.C.! And Vancouver is such a beautiful city. It's one of the few places where I could consider moving - except then I'd be one of those people moving to Vancouver and causing the city to grow until it's eventually less appealing. Also, there's the winter weather, which is crappier than even ours (no small feat)...
