5.22 Not Fade Away
Mostly emotional response. For thoughtful analysis, I point you to

I'm feeling weird; sad and elated at the same time. Started crying when Wes died, and then again when the words 'Joss Whedon' appeared for the last time and it finally sunk in... that's it. That's really it. I'm mourning the season six we'll never get - if it had been anything like the past episodes suggested, it would have been awesome. Cheated out of a whole season of watching Angel's and Spike's relationship develop... and for the first time ever I was getting really fascinated with Wesley, and with his relationship with Illyria. (Although I've been wondering... based on interviews I've read this was the finale they'd wanted to do anyway, even if they'd been renewed. So that means Wes would have died in any case? The way they've been building up his arc and Illyria/Fred, that seems not likely.)
But If it had to end... this was the way to go out! With a finale that felt satisfactory and inspiring, that embodied everything the show is about, that was true to its spirit and the characters. And the way they ended it, it just doesn't feel like it's over. At all. Or maybe it still hasn't sunk in after all.
"Well personally, I kinda want to slay the dragon. -- Let's go to work." Best. last. line. ever!
Connor made it through okay! And I'm so damn glad that in the end Angel wasn't All About Buffy (nor All About Cordy)... because the one person who's more important to him than anyone else has always been his son.
So much good stuff... everyone living their last day. Lorne, totally disillusioned (a few people mentioned that the frame in Spin The Bottle links directly to this ep... Lorne, in the empty club, after he's walked out on his friends... and suddenly it makes so much sense!) Angel signing away the shanshu. So monumental and understated. And the most fitting episode title, ever.
I love this show so much! I've been in love with it ever since I ended up watching that re-run of The Ring one day, because "it's just a stoopid teeny show about vampires but the main character looks kinda pretty in the pics in TV-Highlights". I intended to watch just a few minutes. I have not watched any other television since, except Buffy. And I doubt I'll watch anything else in the near future. Good thing there's DVDs. And fanfic. And vids. An open ending... one that was supposedly meant to serve as a cliffhanger for the next season. It's like an open invitation to come and play.
ETA: There are times when I just don't get my roommate. "How did you like the ep???" - "Okay. Kind of predictable."
:Sob:
