fic recs (x-posted from [livejournal.com profile] stargategenrec):
Hero for a New Age by [livejournal.com profile] smittywing
gen; PG; characters: Ronon Dex, Rodney McKay, Atlantis cast; 11,600 words

Terrific friendship fic with spot-on voices. Ronon and Rodney bonding over Superhero comics: While Ronon gets caught up on Batman & Co, we in turn get to see glimpses of Satedan culture and tales. I usually don't have that much interest in superhero lore but it's the absolutely perfect angle here!

Figurative Hell And Literal High Water by [livejournal.com profile] tipper_green
Characters: Keller, Rodney, Teyla, Sheppard, Ronon
Spoilers: Missing (this takes place after Missing but before This Mortal Coil).
gen (with a teensy hint of Rodney/Jennifer UST); PG; 36,000 words; written for [livejournal.com profile] sga_genficathon
Summary: Rodney's desperate to save his team, and Keller's just trying to keep up, on a planet where hurricanes can last for days.

why rec'd: A descriptive and action-filled adventure story with a fantastic Keller POV that does the character justice. She gets a chance to shine in this one, with nature throwing obstacle after obstacle at them, and Sheppard's team lying injured (really well-written h/c, too). It's much fun to see Rodney and Jennifer play off each other.

This fic put me in a happy mood and left me with a yen for more Keller-centric fic.

btw and speaking of Keller, is there an LJ feed for Jewel Staite's blog?

Yesterday I finished sketching the first 20 pages of the new project. (gulp). 6 pages left, plus the cover. I had hoped to sketch it all in one go, but this is a good point to take a short break. The topic is interesting, even more so since I haven't covered it before. A lot of kids' books tend to revolve around recurring classic topics and and while I love illustrating stories about medieval knights or Native Americans, it's neat to do something off the beaten track. I'm pretty happy with how the first set of pages turned out; hope the editor will like the direction I took it. *bites nails & crosses fingers*

Anyway, a day off will maybe translate into one more page of comic. Maybe. Yes. Provided I can find my sketch pad in the stacks of papers. I guess I should start the day by bringing a little order into this chaos.

random linkage for the day: Google in Klingon

Unfortunately I have no idea. But I, of course, immediately started reading her blog and omilord, spoilers. Huge, big fat, HUUUGE spoilers.

Oh yes, isn't 'Figuratively Hell and Literal High Water' a great Keller fic? Can't wait for the reveal. Love the [livejournal.com profile] sga_genficathon. Great fics.

What, what? Ah, now I'm curious. You got a direct link?

the genficathon is AWESOME. The only problem (and I'm using this word in the loosest sense *g*) is finding the time to read it all. There're two new fics of Rheanna's and one of Cesperanza that I haven't even had time to look at. Man! *pant pant*

I have read just a fraction of the fics posted so far, but everything I have read has been really good.

Me either. I found I'm not good at the guessing thing. My only guess so far would be that 'Light Up, Light Up' was probably written by someone I haven't read before, since it's got a distinctive style that I don't recognize. Other than that, I'm clueless.

I so hope there'll be more Keller fic in this quality. I've really started to like the character a lot. (Particularly when she's interacting with Mckay.)

SPOILER!

What, what? Ah, now I'm curious. You got a direct link?

Right under here (http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=147037658&blogID=358807463) ... but after giving us that spoiler, she refers to the conclusion of season 4, so maybe she's just messing with us. No idea. Can't remember any special costumes for season 4 though and I think Joe M. mentioned the fittings on his blog as well.

one of Cesperanza that I haven't even had time to look at. Man! *pant pant*

Oh boy, don't remind me, I still have to read Cesperanza's previous fic, but they are all, like, 80 000 words in length, I can't read that on a computer screen. Heck, I still haven't read 'Written by the Victors'. How far behind is that! *g*

Hah. Well, I'm thinking fathering Jen's babies is more like a figure of speech for hooking up. In which case I'm totally rooting for Rodney. :)

Has anyone mentioned to Joe Flanigan that he has a striking resemblance to Disney's Aladdin? No, but thanks for the ammo.

Heh. Her blog is fun. Shame there seems to be no LJ feed; I'm so lazy following any blog that's not handily fed into my flist.

Heck, I still haven't read 'Written by the Victors'. How far behind is that! *g*

I hope you'll get around to it - 'Victors' is *really* worth reading! One of the best SGA fics around, and by far the best of Ces' stories that I read.

I don't read anything onscreen, I print out all my fic. I just reformat it first by taking out the extra paragraph break lines, reducing text size, and widening line length, to save paper.

Da-yamn, have you read 'Don Juan McKay and Other Universal Improbabilities'? (posted during week 1). Now there's a great fic, can't believe no one has rec'd that at genrec yet. I shall see if I can throw together a convincing rec...

Don Juan McKay and Other Universal Improbabilities? Where? Where?? I have time! It's almost weekend!

I extended my lunch break with an hour a wee bit today to read the humor gen. Hi-la-ri-ous! God, I wish I could write like that.

My weekly rec for [livejournal.com profile] stargateficrec is coming up and I have dozens of McKay/Sheppard friendship stories to rec, but I find the 'why this must be read' part so difficult. I'm tempted to rec every story with a "because they're so darn cute together". :)

Enjoy :) (http://community.livejournal.com/sga_genficathon/8360.html)

but I find the 'why this must be read' part so difficult.

ME TOO! Heck, I've been reccing fic for years, and that part just doesn't get any easier. Sometimes when a fic comes with a really expressive title or summary, I just use that and let it speak for itself. Or find a handy quote, even better. But of course the recs comms need the why this must be read part. And it's really darn tricky to write something up that's concise and non-rambly and still does the awesomeness of the story justice.
