fic rec (novel-length)

Maybe I'm Dead, I Just Haven't Stopped Moving Yet by cybersyd42
Gen; Rodney-centric... plus team, Zelenka, Becket, Carter (xover with SG-1); set in early S3; 118,400 words
summary: The consequences of a mission gone wrong have a devastating impact on the SGA team.

I read this story practically non-stop, except for the part where I had to put it down last night in order to catch some sleep. Then this morning I skipped breakfast, postponed work, and went straight back to the story.

Not what you'd call a fluffy read; the characters are put through the emotional wringer, and so's the reader. And at the same time this story is satisfying and uplifting, not to mention gripping. The emotional conflicts are entirely believable, the plot and the background detail are great. Fantastic fic.

Is it uplifting enough to bring on a 16 hour flight? I have already copied and pasted the whole thing in Word (didn't know how else to print it - 278 pages in font 10. Whoa) but I am not very good with unhappy endings. It's either this one or Written by the Victors (which I have to admit to my SHAME I haven't read yet either). Maybe I should print them both. Four weeks without SGA. I feel faint.

Well, I don't want to spoil the ending but I dare say you won't be disappointed. :)

Maybe I should print them both.

'Both' is always the correct answer in cases such as this!

btw, I use a little trick when I print out fic in Word... I change all the paragraph breaks into single line breaks, that reduces the page number considerably.

Thanks *g* I'm sure I'll be doing my Office impersonation tomorrow.

I haven't got around to reading any more SGA fic lately, but I've still been watching the show -- funny how the appeal goes up with the strike :)

Last Friday's got some real LOL's out of me, first with the princess successfully blaming Rodney for the ration bar she stole form Shepard's pack, and then of course the mural at the end with heroic Rodney and craven Shepard.
Perfect humor -- I'd missed it.

*snerk* Yeah. I'm watching American Idol, for the first time. There're only a few shows that I *watch* watch at any given time, and I still have half a season of NCIS stacked up. But I need some tv running in the background while I'm working... can't listen to music all day long.

I gotta say, AI is actually quite entertaining... I think I'll file that one under 'guilty pleasure'.

The painting was the hit of the ep. Mallozzi has a few scans at his blog (http://josephmallozzi.wordpress.com/2008/01/28/january-28-2008-reactions-re-fueling-and-ratings/).

Gotta run, more work to do... man, at the moment I feel like I'm working round the clock, inching my way closer to the finish line. I'm very ready to finish this project. Maybe by Sunday I'll be done, fingers crossed.
