quick photoshop question

I made this sketch of Rodney which I colored with markers, only to be reminded why I stopped working with them. Is there any way to get rid of the grainy texture? I like to see a bit of paper structure or texture in my artwork, but this is way too pronounced (it's even more pronounced in a higher resolution).

Also, to celebrate my mini-vacation, I want to do fanart. I got a couple ideas, but I'm taking prompts too. Anybody? (it just gotta be SGA, and gen)

selective blurring, i dunno it doesnt seem that pronounced, i actually really like the texture it gives on the skin

With feathered masks you could gradually despeckle and/or smart blurb (very carefully) some of the areas you want to smooth, or even smudge them (easier if you have a pen tablet).

And ooohhhh, prompts! Er... let me think... Ah! I know. If you ever drew Teyla and Rodney doing the Athosian forehead thing, I'd be over the moon.

Can't offer any artistic advice, but as for prompts... I'd love to see John and a Puddlejumper (in any configuration/context you desire). :)

At this resolution, I actually like the texture. It doesn't look "markery" (yes, I know that's not a word -- I just mean, I'm not seeing pen strokes, which is what usually annoys me about markers).

As for a prompt, I'd love to see the team with some sort of weird alien animal -- we almost never get animals on the show (for obvious production reasons, but still, I can't help thinking the Pegasus Galaxy has got to be full of odd creatures).

I second [livejournal.com profile] newkidfan, and just using despeckle filter without mask might worth a try, in theory it shouldn't blur the edges.I really like the textures, though. *g*

And oooh prompts! Um, I would love to see SGA-1 (or anyone in SGA-1) in a beach.

Ha, funny you're saying that. I actually had this idea for a comic involving a little rodent-like critter... got nothing beyond the basic idea and the first few panels yet, I didn't have the brainspace to give it further thought. But I'll see if I can get somewhere with it.

The texture as such looks okay, but I want to tone it down a little. I don't want the coloring to be completely smooth, though.

Can do :)

Mm. I do like the texture, I just want to tone it down a tad. It looks a lot more obtrusive in the larger resolution, too. Besides, I gotta learn how this program works. :) Thanks for the advice.

Feathered masks, check, thanks. I'll look these up in my Photoshop book (which is actually pretty useful if you know what you're looking for... it's great for finding these commands in my version of PS which is unfortunately in German)

I'll see what I can do :)

Thanks! I'll definitely try that despeckle filter.

Try Smart Blur. I like the texture
