Yes!! As of tonight, four of twelve pages of the book are largely finished and I'm no longer fretting over deadlines. Just a psychological trick, really - I picked the four pages that would go by far the fastest. But my brain is easily fooled and it finally feels like I made some good progress. Anything to get the ball rolling. I want to have it finished in four weeks at the latest and I now think that's very doable.
I may have even finished the final five pages of "Synth", the Fray comic, by that time. This weekend I visited my Dad for our family Christmas (we always celebrate a week early, it's a thing) and used the train ride for scribbling the final missing scenes. Maybe I'll start pencilling tonight, it's still early and work for today being finished and all...
I also procrastinated a little by reading, ahem, NCIS fic. I know. I have no idea how that happened, two weeks ago I had no idea what that show is about, but FX is showing two eps a night, and I like to have some sort of background entertainment when I'm working, and somehow this show may have managed to suck me in. Never thought I'd enjoy a Jag-spinoff of all things... I never cared much for anything but genre shows. Somehow I developed a taste for procedurals, and with 'Bones' on hiatus it's a nice substitute. It bears some similarities to 'Bones', actually, in that the characterizations are strong and the characters quirky.
Oh, also, the final pages of Chrome-Magnon are already scanned, I located the missing page as well. I just have to change the text in one balloon, then I can upload the whole bunch. I'll post them sometime tomorrow.

Interesting. I do the same thing, because by the time I hit the complex stuff I'm in the zone and letting the hand work independently. So 6 easy pages = 1 complex page, really, once the ball as you say is rolling.
That's why feeding pages to an inker in sequence is maddening. Happily that doesn't happen very often. *warding sign*

Good God, where do you get the energy? You bubbling gyser of inspiration, you. You shame me!
I'm working backwards through the flist so I haven't seen the latest Chrome yet. Scrolling...

Exactly! And, same as you, that's why I generally don't work chronologically.

Ha, she's one to talk ;o)
Actually my scribbles at the first stage are a mere quick shorthand, mostly indicating the panel breakdown and the character and baloon placement... very rudimentary. When I see other artists' thumbs, they often look practically printable. No one but me could make any sense of mine, no doubt.
Ah, going to bed now... I've been feeling a cold trying to sneak its way in all day, and I'm determined to stave it off. Sleep, yay.

Sleep. Sleep. *I'll be here when you wake*

At my dad's this weekend, I slept for twelve hours in a row. A room in the basement, with no disturbances, does wonders.

This ensemble really clicks, I'd be hard pressed to pick a favourite character.

Magnum PI was a *fun* show. It had its moments of real danger & suspense from time to time, but mainly the main characters were just such a pleasure to watch even though the show was really just popcorn.
You might D/L a few some time. The setting in Hawaii didn't hurt either.

Yup, NCIS is actually a JAG spinoff. Which I find surprising in a way, since I tried to watch JAG and always found it boring as hell.
The problem is that I just promoted NCIS from "background entertainment" to "must give my undivided attention". Now I need to find me a new background noise...

That's what my wife likes and it drives me crazy sometimes.
I'd rather have music on than the idiot box if I'm trying to work on something else. If it's more serious brain work then it needs to be instrumental, preferably chamber music or a concerto rather than a symphony -- soemthing that won't draw me in too much.
That's really the problem I have with TV -- if I think its worth watching at all then I want to give it my undivided attention.

Heh. Yeah. It has to be *my* tv program, not just anything, otherwise it'd drive me nuts as well.
It's mostly a matter of habit; a few years ago I was wondering how friends of mine could be working with that thing on, but you really can get used to it. I listen to music a lot, too. Or people talking in the background. I just don't like to work in an all quite room, unless I'm doing comic layout - that takes so much concentration I can't even have instrumental music on.
I mostly put on comedy reruns like Frasier or Friends, and set them on audio-only. During the first years I received British Sky I didn't even have a picture (it is scrambled and decoders are tricky to obtain here) and I found that a lot of shows work perfectly fine that way. It's much less distracting, so it's perfect for when you're drawing.

*nod* I don't have many shows that fall in that category... half a dozen over the years, but when one of those is on I don't do anything on the side, like answer the phone...
