fic rec: "War Stories" by tkp

I had a pretty stressful week, therefore the radio silence. Cat's got an eye infection; poor little guy has to wear a collar for a month. I can't tell how much this sucks for all involved, most of all for him. I hope he'll finally get used to that thing after a few more days... and that the eye will heal up all right. Sigh.

I'm getting more and more irritated with my mail provider; at the moment emails seem to take up to several hours to process. So, I want to look into an alternative email address. What is this gmail thing people speak of? Is it realiable? Quick? Free? Do you need an invite code and if so, does anyone have a code to spare? Any advice appreciated. [eta: taken care of, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] littleheaven70]

On a happier note, there's a new chapter of "Servare Vitas". :) And[livejournal.com profile] tkp has post-NFA fic up which I liked immensely:
War Stories: Raising the Banner
I love the premise: "The only AU element is that the episode “Origin” never happened. No one but Angel knows who Connor really is. NFA happens, minus the Connor bits. The fic is set post-NFA in a post-apocalyptic world.

Characters: Focus is on Connor and Angel, with a good side of Spike. There will be other Buffyverse characters, some major and some minor, and lots of OCs. There will be ‘ships that happen between all of these, including slash, but for the most part, this series is gen. It’s about fictional war and politics, derring-do and swashbucklingness, burdens of leadership, orders of command, warring factions, insubordination, that kind of thing, with a father and son at the heart of it."

She calls it crack fic. Angel and Connor centric post-NFA ensemble genfic? Written by [livejournal.com profile] tkp? Bring on the crack!

I have a Gmail invite code I can give you. Heck, I have 99! It's good, all your emails under one subject get strung together like a chat, so you can follow the whole thread on one screen without having to open each individual mail. It also has a chat function. Personally I love it. You just need to send me an email to get an invite. little.heaven (at) gmail.com

Littleheaven beat me to it. Gmail is pretty good, in fact I've been meaning to give you my gmail address for a while now. It's the one I use most these days: Cyn.Martin@gmail.com.

Sorry about your kitty! Poor boo.

I love my new gmail account. It's so fast, and so comfortable. That thing where it sorts messages by thread is great.

My old muenster.de account is ten years old, and I think it's time to put it to pasture. It seems by now to be known to every spammer under the sun. Yesterday? 35 messages asking whether I'm afraid of losing my erection. Plus the odd virus and stock market stuff. When, oh when, will they make spamming a criminal offense.

Only problem is that that address is on my letterhead and everywhere, so I have to phase the addy out slowly. And I need to get myself a separate business mail address, too.

Well, my mouse is a-dying so I can't C&P anymore, but yes: I have the same nagging prob with my ancient email. It's out there and it's established; I still get commission enquires from it and all. The hassle of revamping all my sites and mentions is too much to contemplate so I let it linger on, like a shriveled patient on a ventilator.

So! The clock ticks down! Email me about Frankfurt: do you need me to send you my share of the accomodation money, or can I reimburse you on the spot? Can I just buy a BF ticket at the door, or (God forbid!) are they likely to be sold out a la SD Con? And can you forgive me for not having time to listen to my Visit Germany CD?

A shriveled patient with a bad spam infestation...

Thanks so much for the rec! Yeah, it's crack to me because it's easy to write, which among other things means I'm not sure everyone is in character. Especially in the other stories I've got for the 'verse. But I'm glad you liked it and thanks again!

Your poor cat. *pets*

And I just got gmail relatively recently...haven't changed my lj stuff over to it yet, but I really really like it. So good luck with that!

I like gmail, too. I've started trying out my new account, and what a relief after bumpy muenster.de. It is so much faster. I think I'll gradually phase the old one out.

One other thing that prompted that move was that yesterday I got asked 35 times whether I'm afraid of losing my erection. 16 times just before breakfast. :P

re: crackfic... I think the characterization works well. I love Connor's gut reaction, "He really didn't like him." Heh. And Angel's 180 degree turn when he sees Connor and suddenly transforms from sullen, withdrawn hero into Mr. Fix it. ;)

I want to see much more Connor-Angel interaction. I've been a sucker for that from the start, from the moment the kid jumped out of that portal. Such a complex and messed up relationship, so much potential.

g-chat is also cool. Now, if only everyone was using it...

I never get junk mail; I never have at any account I've ever had. Lucky, I guess.

Yeah, I LOVE Connor and Angel interacting. My problem is I want to see them be happy, and Connor is never happy, until Angel gives him a new family, and then Angel isn't happy . . .

Never? What am I doing wrong? I'm getting mails about OEM software, penis enlargement, than those weird stock market tips... 90% of my mail at this point is spam.

True. But then again, Angel can't be happy so it's for the best. ;)

Their relationship is so intriguing... the desperate love Angel feels for his son, and the twisted feelings Connor has to offer him in return. I'm really pleased the show gave them a sort of happy ending. (And equally happy to read your alternate version.)

The only time I ever got any was when I had a mailblocks account. Then that got eaten by AOL, so I stopped using it.

My favorite thing about Angel and Connor is how Angel loves Connor no matter what. Connor can do anything to him, anything to anyone, anything to the world, and Angel will love him anyway.

Hey, no need to thank me! 'twas the least I could do. Your fic mangaged to put me in a good mood on an otherwise pretty tough day... no mean feat.
