Only two pages to go on my current project, yes! *wipes off sweat* Though it's past midnight already and I barely got any work done today... gonna be a long night. It was a nice day though... summer has returned so I did some unwinding in the sun. Have been reading the latest chapter of

newscaper's Servare Vitas, which was once again as thrilling and dramatic as the best stuff you get to see on tv (seriously, if you're not already reading this fic, check it out asap (Bonesfic)).

Also, Sudokus are addictive and an efficient way to procrastinate. I'm gonna be evil and share the link that leads to temptation: websudoku.com. Try the 'evil' setting.

I got a cool job offer the other day; topic sounds fun and I'm looking forward to illustrating it. Now, the interesting part was that they got my contact info from the net. From my X-Files fan comic site, to be more exact. When I google my name, that webcomic still shows up at rank 3 or above, while my official, forever-under-construction illustration site appears somewhere on page three or below. Who scrolls down that far? It's useless. I have no idea how to improve the google ranking, so instead I caved and edited in an impromptu link on the comic homepage, until I get myself a proper website. Still very weird. The X-Files site doesn't even get more than a handful of hits these days.

Really, one of these days I will get my own domain, and make a proper webdesign, and keep the site well-maintained and up-to-date and everything. *nods*

ach, what the hell. Not exactly the same thing, but I finally got myself a paid LJ account. I have no idea yet what to do with dozens of userpics... I mean, one seems plenty? But 2 gig storage space sound good... plus, an alternative email address that's, quite possibly, even reliable... and I heard through the grapevine about an upcoming, new feature where you can track LJs by tags? Ah well, let's see what the fuss is about. :)

And now, on to work. Those pages won't colour themselves.

I'll be impressed when a given tag keeps track of all the entries assigned to it, not just the most recent 100.

I saw that "track" feature, but didn't want to click before I knew what it does, exactly. Still didn't quite get what it's for. Do you know?

And I know what you mean about getting a proper portfolio site up and running. I've been giving my flickr page as a portfolio while I'm looking for design work. It's totally doesn't do my work justice. But the proper portfolio is just such huge work and I'm always too (lazy) busy...

Oh, man. So much work. I'd say the webdesign itself is the least problem, but to scan and upload dozens of pictures... it's so boring and tedious. The stuff on my illu page is at least a year old; I'm not doing myself a favour by not updating.

Gathering from what I hear from editors, having a decent online portfolio is getting more and more important. Not surprising; first thing I do when I want to check out a new product is go online.

I didn't know there was a limit on how far back tags will reach? Hm. Still, the tracking feature sounds useful. I'm going to try it out, see how it works.

And I realized I can now do polls! Of course, now I have forgotten what poll it was that I wanted to do a while ago...

I feel a weird sense of accomplishment over getting the paid account. Heh. Must be my mind's way of making up for the fact that I was damned lazy yesterday... so there was nothing there to feel accomplished over.

Sigh. The final pages any longer project tend do draaag. Anyway, today's gonna be more productive! If I finish this by next Tuesday or Wednesday, I'll have time to ink page six.

Didn't I learn in some long forgotten Flash class that you can edit your site's meta tags (or whatever they're called) to boost it on google? Or have they long since found a way of thwarting such things?

I started to fool around with the tracking thing - it seems pretty cool. You can mark a post to get an email notification anytime someone comments on that post. v neat. haven't found the tag-tracking feature yet.

Well, there's that thing where you put tags in your meta tag section that have little to do with the site, but that people tend to go for. In other words, secks!!1!. But that sort of thing is frowned upon and at the very least will anger the folks who come to yours site, only to find a dire lack of pr0n. ;) I don't know if it's against the TOS or something... I supposed it would improve the google ranking.

Heh, little anecdote on the side:

plaidder has written an original fantasy trilogy, Women On Fire (must-read, btw) which features a continent she named 'Hentai'. With the result she got a lot of traffic from visitors looking for Japanese tentacle porn.

But I digress... ;)

Maybe using the site's url as a regular tag in one's posts would help... but I rarely post outside fandom, and I don't want the rl and fandom identity to mesh too much. Tricky.

Also - if someone tracks you, can you tell? Do they notify you yourself that your stuff is being tracked by someone? Interesting.

I don't get the tag tracking. Can't imagine what that could mean.

I assume you can put a tracking marker on specific tags in someone elses journal, so you'll get an email notification whenever they post something under that tag. I don't know if it's supposed to work already; couldn't find it yet. It sounds extremely useful though. Since I'm not into that many fandoms but a lot of people are, it would be a good way to keep track of people's fic without having to friend two dozen journals and read all the stuff about Alias and Dr Who and Stargate, all shows which I'm not terribly interested in.
