work/fanart/general late-night ramblings

Work stuff: today I finished double-spread page number 5 of 12 for my current book. All but one of the remaining pages are already inked, and I'm well within my schedule. That schedule is actually twice the time I used to plan for this kind of project (seriously, I double everything now) and I HAVE NO IDEA HOW I USED TO DO IT. I don't. I just vaguely remember that "stressed out" and "hyper" were my default modes for about 15 years. Gawd.

Anyway. 2/3rds done, and I'm still in love with the topic (which unfortunately I can't talk about in detail, but it's really cool. :)

I was almost tempted to ask for fanart prompts today but I want to finish the entire book first. After that, probably some more of that fashion history meme... that was a lot of fun to do last year, and educational as well. And I want to do something action-posey, comic-style with Ward and Deathlok because the show couldn't kill my headcanon yet, but I'm still lacking concrete ideas. And, I admit I'm kind of dreading the response even before having done the first pencil stroke. Gotta post whatever art I do with the tumblr equivalent of barbwire fences to keep the haters out. The anti-Ward crowd doesn't excel at tolerance and anyone who knows me knows how I react to character bashing in my posts. (spoiler: it's not pretty)

Well, first I gotta do my taxes tomorrow. Deadline for freelancers was day before yesterday. The forms have been sitting on my desk for weeks, practically finished, but I'm still missing some papers. So annoying. And I think starting this year you have to submit them online, which I still have to figure out how to do.

Also, while I'm posting, tonight's Japanese class was awesome... it was the first time that it felt like I was just talking, instead of scrambling for words. It didn't feel anywhere near as natural as English, of course, but it was a huge leap for me. And our teacher, for once, spoke nothing but Japanese when normally she switches to German a lot so the less advanced students can follow. It's a pretty non-homogenous class, to everyone's frustration. Typical problem with less common languages (in Germany, I mean).. once you get to a certain level you're just happy to get enough students for a class at all, so you can't be too selective.

In conclusion... *re-reads post* taxes suck?

Really, you have to do it online now? I thought that was just businesses who had to do that. Are freelancers the same? I intended to file on paper again this year. My brother has no end of trouble to file his taxes electronically while using Linux, because their program only runs under windows so he has to use some kind of complicated emulator. I don't want to figure out all that. :P

(I myself so far have just sent them a request for a six month extension for my taxes, because the stupid Finanzamt hasn't gotten back to me and my siblings about our joint pre-filing for our shared property income yet, for which we had all the info compiled in January but they didn't even provide option to file it in their idiotic half-broken electronic thing until April, and of course it always takes them then months to get anything back to you, so I can't send them my tax forms yet.)

Googling the issue tells me that it is not everybody, but it not just businesses but also self-employed people, so you probably have to. Also apparently there is now an online portal that it is supposed to run with every OS, in addition to the thing you can download only for Windows. I used the latter for my father because he had to file online for the Umsatzsteuer for a while (that requirement started earlier) and under Windows itself it installed and worked without bigger problems, and the input was just like screen versions of the previous paper forms.

The one advantage of doing it electronically is that you don't have to give them the pile of receipts and documents like when you file everything on paper in one go, but only hand those in when they ask for them to check, and mostly they don't, but just believe the numbers you filled into the forms and don't bother with seeing documentation.

No you don't have to scan anything and AFAIK there is no way to append such stuff directly with the forms. I vaguely recall that there are a couple of things for which there is a specific legal requirement that they get them on paper (I think Spendenbescheinigungen are an example but I'm not sure about the details), but that is the exception, and AFAIK you don't scan that paperwork but hand that in separately as originals at the Finanzamt (or snailmail them) as usual, same for anything they ask for later on. At least that's the way I did it with my siblings when we filed our shared form electronically and they asked for some documents later on.
