Last week, the flu did a sneak attack on me, but it looks like it's finally retreating. Today, my sense of smell came back. Hello, sense of smell, I missed you so*clings*.
What is weird, though, is that I never lost my sense of taste, on the contrary... right now it's so sensitive that I can't eat anything pre-fabricated. I tried to eat a corn chip today... bah! Tasted like pure salt. Sugarless gum tastes so sweet, I can't believe I like to chew this stuff. Eh, not hungry anyway. Interesting effect, though.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll be up to working again. I have a lot of lost time to make up for. Sigh. But it's better to have this happen at the beginning of a project than near the end, so I'm not complaining. (Well, I was complaining a little bit)

Fun ep. I had to rewind quite a lot to get all the dialog because of all the laughing which each time triggered a coughing fit.

choice fave moments:
"This is a corpse. With skin." -- "She is good." -- "Why am I here, you know I don't work with skin."
The Mayor and his wench.
Pervy!doctor.
"Pirates aren't Santa."
"I had an eyepatch when I was six"
"You dive, too?" -- "I have the time because I don't own a tv." - okay, I was about to raise a brow because of yet another cool skill for Brennan, but because of this line I let it go ;)
When Brennan slapped the guy? Twice? Hilarious. I'm not a fan of her usual 'assault first, ask questions later' style, but I thought that was brilliant for once.
Brennan freaking out when her bones are gone. And in the beginning when she sees what Pervy!doc has done to the bone. And the way she says, "Dude."

I really heart Brennan! I keep reading comments by people who think she's annoying because she's too harsh and cold and... I don't get it. She doesn't come across as cold to me at all, not even during the first few eps where she was more distanced. Okay, she doesn't wear her heart on her sleave but that doesn't mean she's not passionate and caring. I think it makes her an interesting character, and Deschanel plays her brilliantly. Ah well, different strokes... as long as the writers don't react to negative comments and mellow the character down too much.

I think Deschanel is underrated. People say she's wooden, but Brennan isn't given to showing much emotion. And it's all the more effective when she *does* allow her feelings to come through. Case in point - when Booth starts playing air guitar to "Hot Blooded", she gets this wonderful mixture of expressions on her face just before she joins in and starts dancing. A kind of half-shy, half "yeah, I really love this song too but I don't want to embarrass myself" which becomes, "oh, what the heck." I love that.

And when Booth says, "I'm proud you asked, Temperance." in the previous episode, she just *smiles*, and leans in as if she's about to say something--then Zach interrupts. I love that moment.

The only area where I think Deschanel needs work is with the technical terminology. It's difficult to play a scientist without sounding like you're reciting a grocery list. ER is a great illustration of actors who can do this (Laura Innes, Anthony Edwards) and those who can't (Michael Michele, Erik Palladino).

But on the whole, I agree. Definitely underrated.

Exactly. I think she gives a very nuanced performance and I wish she'd get more credit for it.

I never noticed anything off in the delivery of the technocal lingo, it seems convincing to me. Then again I'm usually too busy trying to follow her words. ;)

I like Brennan, too. She's not wooden, because in the moments where they let her show emotion, she really does show it. There's been a few times where she's welled up with tears and you can really *feel* it all under the surface.

My Mum especially likes her - everything Brennan says cracks her up. We're only up to The Superhero In The Alley on our TV here, but let's just say I've "managed" to watch all of them that have screend in the US ;o)

You don't say. Are you by any chance alluding to illegal activity? I'm deeply shocked!
Isn't DSL a wonderful thing? :)

Also, Brennan rocks as does Emily Deschanel and that needs saying more often.

I see [livejournal.com profile] yhlee just posted a Bones drabble, check it out.

Sure thing, I think the idea of a hand-picked archive is great. I'll mention it when I post the next couple recs.

Ooh, thank you! Much appreciated :o)

Ach darn, I'm so scatterbrained. I knew I'd forgotten something. But I already starting to collect for the next list, then I'll definitely think of it.

Wow, I just read Laurie's story. Now, that's good fic. Wow.
