Still tinkering with the thrice-&§$% archive

Okay. This page has a black-border-with-white-background when viewed with Firefox, while in IE is has a black-border-with-blue-background. This confuses me greatly. Is there even a logical explanation for this? (It's supposed to be blue, by the way.)

eta: fixed! :o) (Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre's mad computer skillz)

There's something going on with the CSS. It works in Safari, so I'm trying to see if it's a Firefox bug or something in the CSS that needs to be fixed.

Thanks. Interestingly enough, all the other pages look fine in both browsers. The other forms all use a different stylesheet though, this one (http://s8219.net/bbfarchive/archive-form-stylesheet.css). This (http://s8219.net/bbfarchive/archive/archive-file-stylesheet.css) is the one used for the story files, so the problem must be in here somewhere, I guess.

Sounds like stylesheet weirdness. I'll take a closer look this evening.

Figured it out.

Change the way the comment is formatted at the top of the CSS file. Right now, it's formatted like an HTML comment.

Needs to be /*comment*/ instead of <!-->comment<-->

Fixing that fixed it on my machine.

Yeah! Worked like a charm. Thank you so much, that's the kind of stuff that would take me days to figure out, at least. I mean, the comment... *headdesk*

Weirdness indeed. Thanks for the help offerings - [livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre has already found a cure *points upthread*. Ah, what would we do without LJ. :)

It's often the little things that throw a browser off, especially a browser that's strict about standards.

This is especially annoying when you've got a huge stylesheet and the problem is one missing semi-colon somewhere in the middle. (I really need to check and see if the world offers a stylesheet editor that, like the HTML or XML editors I use, will jump right to the offending line and flag it for you as broken. It probably exists, but I've never had it personally or professionally. Something like that would save so much time.)

YES! Been there, done that. Nice catch in the stylesheet. :)

Ouch, yeah. Done the missing semi-colon thing, too. And that one time I spent the better part of the day trying to figure out why the AutomatedArchiveSettings file wouldn't run right... the cause turned out to be an ill-placed line break.

by the way, which html editor do you use?

At home on the PC, I usually use HTMLKit, because it's free and I like the FTP set up it uses. I'm looking for something as good for the Mac, given that I'm on my Powerbook 99% of the time these days.

At jobs, it's usually HomeSite.

Free sounds good. I'll give it a try.
