?

My wireless mouse stopped working and my computer says it can't find a problem. Windows helpfully suggests under 'additional problem solving measures' to 'ask a friend'. Gee, Win7, that thought wouldn't have occurred to me.

It stopped working twice in the last few days but I could get it to work again by using my #1 troubleshooting technique (switching it off and on again). But now it seems gone for good. New battery didn't help. I'm navigating with my Wacom tablet, that works but it's quite inconvenient. Especially since I keep forgetting about the mouse.

I don't really have any experience with Windows, but when weird glitches with external hardware in my linux happen, I try reloading the drivers manually, updating them and/or reinstalling the hardware. Or if there was a recent update (like security fixes that affected a driver) go back to the older version. The only other thing you could try is test another wireless mouse, to see if your hardware has become broken.

It can't hurt to try. I mean, if you buy a new mouse and it still won't work, you can return the new mouse and won't even have wasted that.
