I just had a mini-epiphany...
... regarding one plothole in Angel's season four that's been bugging me forever. Well, I don't engage much in meta discussion so maybe this is an old hat...
So, I'm currently rewatching the complete series with some friends. We just got to Shiny Happy People (still one of my favourites, so sue me) and I'm once again in awe at the brilliance of the writing. Just this one thing never made sense: Why would Evil!Cordy need Angelus? Since Evil!Cordy is basically Jasmine, who's all about peace and eternal harmony (albeit at a fairly hefty price) - what would she need Angelus for?
Even knowing that the Jasmine arc was, in fact, the product of a whole lot of creative juggling in light of CC's pregnancy... still. The writers improvised so brilliantly overall that this point was really jarring. The Jasmine arc and the Angelus arc both work so amazingly well, but where's the connection? Wesley's brief, 'it was birth pains' comment didn't sufficiently explain it. And this bugged me, for I'm a geek.
But heh, when we watched Inside Out the other day it suddenly clicked: Evil!Cordy / Jasmine didn't need Angelus. It was never about Angelus in the first place. It was about Connor. To brainwash Connor to the point where he'd do what she needed him for and kill that girl, she first had to cut him off from everything and everybody who was important to him, destroy his whole belief system, burn his bridges. And getting rid of Angel while bringing forth Angelus was a major factor in that.
So *nod* this is my very ownfanwank meta. We will now resume our regular programming.

So *nod* this is my very own
