fic recs:
This Is the Song that Goes Like This by [livejournal.com profile] argosy
Rodney/Teyla; PG; 3,200 words
For [livejournal.com profile] sticksandsnark, prompt: culture shock
Summary: And that was how Rodney got sucked against his will into the Day of Renewal celebration, or--as Rodney liked to think of it--Teyla's Athosian Extravaganza.

Adorable, funny... perfect ending.

Ashna and Eshon by [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon
Rodney/Teyla; PG; ~2100 words
For [livejournal.com profile] sticksandsnark, prompt: Teyla. Queen.
Summary: He realized, waking up one morning to blink at the stack of books by his bed, that he'd never said hello to Teyla in her own language, never sung a made-up song to Kagaan with words the boy would one day claim as his own.

Rodney learns Athosian for Teyla. Beautiful story, and an intriguing look at the linguistics of the gate'verse.

Textual translation software was standard on every Lantean machine, and he fed words from his book into the laptop, sent them through a set of algorithms he'd tweaked once or twice, waited for the English meanings to pop up on his screen. Ashna, Devaat, Mehnit, Eshon, Emar, G'tare, Tasaan, Ushf'd – the words sprang up in Athosian and English; queen, queen, queen, queen, queen, queen, queen, queen. Rodney frowned and ran the command again – queen, queen; the result was the same.

The last of the large double-spread pages is slain. >_< I love illustration, but that amount of overtime pretty much sucked. I can haz my life back now, plz?

Oh, I watched that SGA episode that doesn't exist yet.
So, the Shep whumpers had the right idea by bribing Mallozzi with chocolates, eh? *g* A fun episode overall... full of team-y goodness. Like others have pointed out, it felt like pretty much one big fanfic from beginning to end. Actually I may have read parts of this before. Not a bad thing, mind.

Okay, but just this one thing bugged me: when Michael snagged their Jumper, why didn't he have guards hiding at the landing site, to conveniently pluck our team when they made their way back there? I mean, that was a pretty gross oversight on Michael's part (or rather that of the writers). Better not think about stuff like that too closely... *rewatches Rodney delivering Teyla's baby instead*

Keller is a pushover (but I love her). Caldwell was great! "Please make that ship go away" was my favorite line of the episode.

I'm going to really miss Sam. Pity that Amanda Tapping is leaving now, just when her character is starting to gel with the others. I would've liked to see her on the show full-time for a change. But on the other hand watching Woolsey clash with the others should be interesting.

So how did that one slip out? *watches download eagerly* You have to wonder if someone over at Stargate production is a little careless, given Ark Of Truth's escape into the wild well before release date.

Mallozzi says: "It’s tough to keep a lid on things when you’re sending out so many copies for review. The best we can do is keep an eye on the sites and, at the very least, take comfort in the fact that it wasn’t an unfinished episode with temp VFX.."

Hard to avoid those leaks, I guess... unlike the i-tunes slip-ups last year, which were just stupid. Anyway, I'm wondering if this buzz might not actually help ratings rather than hurt them.

Yes, hard to avoid I guess, especially these days with all the technology around - nothing is secure. And we benefit in this instance! *skips off to watch*

Yay for instant gratification! :)

It feels so weird when I think back to the eighties when watching a show in the original language was just not an option. *shudders* And VCRs didn't exist so I'd copy title credit tunes on audio tape. Wow.

[identity profile] littleheaven70.livejournal.com 2008-06-23 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, the 80's, how I loved them so. I remember our first VCR. It cost $1400 and the tapes were $20 each. I used to record music videos off the chart shows. I still have all the tapes. I wonder if they still play?

I also remember when radio first went FM. And when I was 14 I had a walkman the size of a housebrick that I carried around everywhere at school. People called it my life support system. *g* Man, am I showing my age ;o)

If I could have looked forward now and seen this, it would have made me squeee until I was purple. And I'd have been ecstatic that Duran Duran was still together (more or less).

So true. But Sheppard groping around in the mist for his Jumper was pretty hilarious though. I kept waiting for the 'Anyone remember where we parked??" line. *g*

I liked Carter in this episode: decisive, feisty, in command. At least they gave her a satisfying wave goodbye and didn't kill her off. (That was my small peeve - that she hears she's relieved of command on the ramp of the SGC Stargate. Can't they book a conference room?)

Oh, it will be so interesting to see the team interact with Woolsey!

PS After months of not drawing anything, I finally picked up a pencil again this weekend! *is very excited*

Heh. Yeah, that was funny.

Boy, is Flanigan great at the wounded bird thing or what? Nice understated acting, I totally bought that he could barely keep on his feet the whole time.

Well, it wasn't very, um, tactful... but it felt like a Woolsey thing to do, so I don't mind at all.

Very cool. What are you drawing, fanart or original?

Caldwell was great! "Please make that ship go away" was my favorite line of the episode.

The more I see of him the more I like him.

Hell Yes! And the last time he needed a bandage was in season One. Talk about holding out on us.

What are you drawing, fanart or original?

Original. I am thinking of signing up again for life drawing classes this fall. I took a class a couple of years ago and it was so much fun, I don't know why I stopped.

Ah, now I'm feeling all nostalgic. I'm fondly thinking of our first VCR. Lucky for us, my grandma was an early adopter. Baby cost 2,000 Marks which at the time was a small fortune, but money well spent. :) I was the only one in the family who ever knew how to program it (technology holds no mysteries for a properly motivated fangirl).

Same here. When he first showed up in season one, I think, I didn't like him all that much but he grows on you. He's got a great presence whenever he's on the screen.

[identity profile] littleheaven70.livejournal.com 2008-06-23 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
The introduction of the VCR was also the introduction to parents not being able to programme the darn thing. My parents have a hard drive recorder and STILL don't know how to set a timer. Or even change the channel on it! LOL.

It was first ep of S2 and soon after that he tried to take over from John as Military leader of Atlantis so I kinda hated him then. But now, I think he probably one of my favourite side character... he's such a badass but in a different way.

"I like to keep daring rescues down to one a day." LOL!
