“The Avengers need a Hawkeye right now. You’re the option.”
“I am a cop.” The vehemence in Walsh’s voice caused Steve to rock back on the diner stool. “I will get someone killed if you parade me out as being Hawkeye. I am not...” He shook his head and glared. “No.”

“Shut the fuck up, Cole,” said Bunk. No fucking swearing in a precinct. What the hell were they going to think up next? Hell, the whole fucking police department was probably sick of it. Now, the Bunk could hold back his words if need be, but here the needs didn’t fucking be.

The Unusuals fic rec:
The Unusual Suspects by celesteavonne
Gen w/canon pairings; casefic/team/humor/suspense; rated ~PG; 58,000 words
Summary: A mugger attacks random disconnected people, leaving clues written on the victim's hands. This starts Shraeger and Walsh on the path to find a killer who seems to know all of Second Squads secrets. Meanwhile, Dr. Crumb decides to take matters into her own hands with Delahoy, wrecking Banks' illusions of a calm, normal life in the process.

Insta!rec: This story is now complete, and it was so worth the wait! This, right here, is why I love fanfiction. Because the show was cancelled (way too soon) but reading this fic, it's not just like watching a new episode of the show - she's got half a second season's worth of plot there, picking up plot threads from season one and weaving them together in a satisfying conclusion, while doing all the characters in this large ensemble justice. Ah, I love all of them! One of the best casefics I've ever read.

Every time I see a well-written Unusuals fic I want to do the Dance of Joy. Great Beaumont voice... and spot-on description of Walsh, seen through her eyes.

(I so hope someone out there nominated this show for Yuletide...)

The mission is not just politically sensitive, or personally dangerous - it also sounds so crazy that Brandt would suspect a practical joke if Ethan didn’t seem like the kind of guy who would just murder whoever he was irritated with instead. There’s an Iranian prince’s body double, one half of the recipe for a chemical weapon, a train hand-off in Kazakhstan, and a Dutch contact of Ethan's whom Brandt is expected to meet with in fourteen hours. In the Netherlands. Oh, and a guaranteed international incident should any of them get caught.

But it doesn’t matter. Brandt said yes, and he knows that if Ethan asks him for anything else, he’ll say yes to that, too.

Summary: Maria Hill's never found it easy to explain why she became a SHIELD agent, but she knows why she stays one.

Very intriguing character dynamics; I dig Maria's perspective on the Avengers and her neverending arguments with Steve.
(I heard rumors that in movies to come Maria Hill will take Coulson's place as liaison to the Avengers - I so hope that's true!)

Summary: Coulson had once made the observation that Darcy Lewis’ ability to beg, bribe, or bully people into her plans was almost a superpower in and of itself.
Considering she was walking down a tattered Tribeca street with four women she either barely knew or didn’t socialise with for drinks on a Friday night, Maria could well believe it.

It’s not that Casey is jealous of Beaumont, or that she’s ever seriously thought about Walsh that way. He’s her partner and Casey knows too many of his bad habits to ever think about him romantically. She’s tried his experimental cookery, for one thing. But before Beaumont, there was always a possibility that one night the two of them might get drunk and stupid in the diner after work, and Casey is just a little curious to know what that would go like. It seems like it might have been fun.
