Really interesting for Wire fans: The Wire S4 Behind the scenes - It's all connected
(In 3 parts on Youtube, ~30 min, major spoilers for all seasons!)

A fun Unusuals/Avengers crossover (in which Hawkeye and Walsh are not the same person):
Substitutions may change the flavor profile by [archiveofourown.org profile] daroos
Gen; Walsh, Clint & various; crossover/slightly cracky; 13771 words
Summary: When Clint is kidnapped, the Avengers need a quick substitute for their resident snark machine. Or, the time Detective Walsh got guilt tripped by Captain America into pretending to be his brother.
Walsh looked very earnestly at Steve. “This is a terrible idea. I am having difficulty telling you how bad an idea this is.”
“The Avengers need a Hawkeye right now. You’re the option.”
“I am a cop.” The vehemence in Walsh’s voice caused Steve to rock back on the diner stool. “I will get someone killed if you parade me out as being Hawkeye. I am not...” He shook his head and glared. “No.”

belated Unusuals YuleRec: A Virtual Pandemic by [archiveofourown.org profile] swmbo
Shraeger/Walsh, Delahoy&Banks, Alvarez, Brown; romance/quirk; teen; 2195 words
“Seriously? You’re wearing a surgical mask now? Why - why would you do that? Just feel like it complements the kevlar?”
“There is a swine flu outbreak! Do you even know what that means? In 1918, the swine flu created a pandemic. People died. Lots of people died. Everyone always dismisses influenza like it’s just a severe cold but it’s not. It’s deadly. Deadly. As in, not something to mess around with. I actually got enough for everyone in the department, who knows what Walsh exposed us to.”

The AO3 tag for this show is so disappointing when you're not into Avengers fusions. And next Yuletide is far away... (which is OTOH a good thing because I got my fill of winter. But I'm getting fic withdrawal.)

The eps are currently up on youtube btw, grab'em while you can.

The Wire: short film for a bit of Omar backstory, part of the S5 DVDs: Omar Little As A Shorty - Baltimore, 1985 (1:50 min)

This was the best Yuletide for Unusuals fans! Here's a Walsh/Shraeger partnership fic I much enjoyed.

In which Casey tries to get her partner to open up. Also, boats.
Things I'm Learning About You by [archiveofourown.org profile] aliassmith
Gen; Walsh & Shraeger friendship; genre: buddy cops; 2303 words
Summary: “Look, there are absolutely no underlying motives here, just good old fashioned bonding. Here, I’ll even go first. I am deathly allergic to peas.”
Walsh laughs because he really is an asshole. “Peas? No one’s allergic to peas.”

Unusuals:
Go As You Aren't Day by [archiveofourown.org profile] eli
Summary: Wherein a mother really is the best protector, a brilliant crime boss proves everyone is dumb, and we find out how many detectives it takes to tie a bow tie.
Ensemble (with bg Jason/Allison, Casey/Davis); genre: buddy cops/undercover work; rated G; 3577 words

(Here, by the way, is an official trailer for the show I found on Youtube. The picture quality is not the best (okay, lousy) but it gives a pretty good overall impression.)

Forty-Two by [archiveofourown.org profile] knitmeapony (The Unusuals/Warehouse 13)
Summary: In which Eric Delahoy calls an old buddy from the ATF to look into his partner's curse
Gen; characters: Delahoy, Banks, Donovan, Jinks; supernatural mystery/buddy cops; 1512 words
"But you're a federal agent." He squinted as she nodded. "And you're what, twelve?"
She swung her feet to the ground and sat up so she could give him a bit of an evil eye. "And you're what, forty-two?"
"Hey, look, that's not funny..."

I thought this worked really well as a crossover, and I don't even know Warehouse 13!

The Stakeout by [archiveofourown.org profile] DaisyNinjaGirl
Summary: In which we find out some secrets.
Gen; Walsh, Schraeger, Delahoy, Banks; 1301 words

Could be a scene straight from the show. The four are on a stakeout together and secrets are shared.

Lookie, here's a slideshow of Germany's permagrey seen from above. Looks pretty, like an ocean of clouds. Less pretty from below. I can't even remember when I last saw the sun... sometime in 2012, it was. It's so ridiculous that it's almost funny instead of depressing.

I'm determined to go running today. I just need for the rain to stop. Which should happen in *checks* about four hours. Thank god for wetteronline's rain radar prognosis.

... is early because yuletide madness opened and there it is - the crossover I didn't know I craved: The Wire/The Unusuals
(In other words, worlds collide.)

welcome to the melting pot by Anonymous
Gen; Bunk, & Cole, Delahoy, Banks, Walsh, Shraeger; crossover/humor; 873 words
Summary: Why his wife felt the need to move the family up here was beyond him. And oh, he had sure as fuck agreed, needed to get away from the department that still associated him with McNulty’s fuckup, but this- this was too much.
Bunk heard a soft throat clearing behind him and preemptively winced. He knew what was coming. “I would really prefer it if you-”
“Shut the fuck up, Cole,” said Bunk. No fucking swearing in a precinct. What the hell were they going to think up next? Hell, the whole fucking police department was probably sick of it. Now, the Bunk could hold back his words if need be, but here the needs didn’t fucking be.

...
At this rate I'm never gonna get any work done.

Yuletide! \o/ And my fave minor fandoms got like 20 fics between them!

Here's an Unusuals Christmas fic in the spirit of both the show and the season. (Seriously, I may be getting seasonal feelings here.) Brought a huge smile to my face.

The Precinct Gave To Me by anonymous
team with Eddie/Nicole; genre: team/humor/casefic; rated teen; 1430 words
Summary: It's the night before Christmas and, all through the Second Precinct, there's drama, bad puns and the case of the stolen Christmas shopping.

I ♥ Yuletide!

The Unusuals fic rec:
The Unusual Suspects by [archiveofourown.org profile] celesteavonne
Gen w/canon pairings; casefic/team/humor/suspense; rated ~PG; 58,000 words
Summary: A mugger attacks random disconnected people, leaving clues written on the victim's hands. This starts Shraeger and Walsh on the path to find a killer who seems to know all of Second Squads secrets. Meanwhile, Dr. Crumb decides to take matters into her own hands with Delahoy, wrecking Banks' illusions of a calm, normal life in the process.

Insta!rec: This story is now complete, and it was so worth the wait! This, right here, is why I love fanfiction. Because the show was cancelled (way too soon) but reading this fic, it's not just like watching a new episode of the show - she's got half a second season's worth of plot there, picking up plot threads from season one and weaving them together in a satisfying conclusion, while doing all the characters in this large ensemble justice. Ah, I love all of them! One of the best casefics I've ever read.

Safe by [archiveofourown.org profile] beanarie (The Avengers)
Nat/Clint; rating: teen; 1450 words
Summary: In the space of a month, Clint and Natasha work two missions together, and Natasha has to work a third on her own.

Five Times by [fanfiction.net profile] Wicked42(The Unusuals)
Walsh/Shraeger-ish; rating: teen; genre: friendship/fluff; 3158 words
Summary: Five times Walsh made Shraeger food, and one time she took care of it.

S.H.I.E.L.D Trailer
Story: The Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division has to deal with a rogue agent, intent on using warheads to destroying as many major cities as possible. Two highly trained agents, Maria Hill and Phil Coulson, must team up with two criminal elements in the form of the Black Widow and Hawkeye, all under the command of Nick Fury.
The sound is a bit low in some of the dialog parts (at least on my sound system) but apart from that, a really cool trailer.

Yuletide noms are out and The Unusuals is in! Yay! Most of the fandoms I care about have made it in: Bourne Legacy, M:I 4, Frasier. Only Drop The Dead Donkey didn't get nommed which is a shame 'cause this is the only chance to see decent fic written for that show. Or rather, any fic at all. And no one nominated Calvin and Hobbes this year?

The Unusuals fic rec:
hard to dance with a devil on your back by [archiveofourown.org profile] topaz
Allison Beaumont/Jason Walsh; genre: character study/first time; rating: explicit; 6010 words
Summary: "I don't do this." Allison knew how to cut guys off when she didn't care--she could take them out at the knees without a second thought--but that wasn't how she wanted this to go.
"I don't either," Walsh said.

Every time I see a well-written Unusuals fic I want to do the Dance of Joy. Great Beaumont voice... and spot-on description of Walsh, seen through her eyes.

(I so hope someone out there nominated this show for Yuletide...)

Phase by [livejournal.com profile] slynn
Natasha/Clint, Steve, Tony; Gen-ish; PG-13; 8029 words
Summary: Natasha realizes that the only way out is to offer up an explanation.

A continuation of Slynn's Recruitment series. As with the previous parts, I first had no idea what to expect from this story. It is heartbreaking, really, but in a good way. She has a great way writing drama and making even more extreme decisions from the characters feel entirely understandable. Very interesting blend of movie and comics canon too.

WIP/heads up for The Unusuals fans: [livejournal.com profile] celesteavonne is in the process of posting a casefile with the entire ensemble that's picking up where the last ep left us hanging. So far the first two of five parts are up, each part is ~10,000 words. I'm hooked. ffn link: The Unusual Suspects

Avengers:
the highest reaches of human endeavor by [livejournal.com profile] kuhori_rei
Natasha/Clint; NC-17; 2450 words
Summary: Clint and Natasha are never awkward. Except for when they are. (Or, five times Clint and Natasha screw up during sex, and one time they really just don’t care.)

MI4: Ghost Protocol:
Countdown by [archiveofourown.org profile] Desdemon
William Brandt/Ethan Hunt and team; spy antics with kissing; 2761 words
The mission is not just politically sensitive, or personally dangerous - it also sounds so crazy that Brandt would suspect a practical joke if Ethan didn’t seem like the kind of guy who would just murder whoever he was irritated with instead. There’s an Iranian prince’s body double, one half of the recipe for a chemical weapon, a train hand-off in Kazakhstan, and a Dutch contact of Ethan's whom Brandt is expected to meet with in fourteen hours. In the Netherlands. Oh, and a guaranteed international incident should any of them get caught.

But it doesn’t matter. Brandt said yes, and he knows that if Ethan asks him for anything else, he’ll say yes to that, too.

Unusuals:
Laid Bare by [archiveofourown.org profile] Zinnith
Gen; PG-13; characters: Casey & Jason; genre: Partnership, h/c; 2236 words
Summary: "Look, Beaumont, it's just the flu and he's a grown man--I don't think you need someone to watch him during your shift."
"Casey--just get over here. I'll explain when you get here."

Avengers:
Near-Death Experience with a Side of Shawarma by [archiveofourown.org profile] Zinnith
Gen; PG-13; characters: Tony, Bruce and team; 2549 words
Summary: The battle is over and Tony is fine. Really, he is.

The Blood On Her Hands by [archiveofourown.org profile] Maxiekat
Gen; characters: Natasha, Clint and Fury; 2951 words
Summary: Agent Barton was sent to Russia to take out an assassin known as The Black Widow. When he starts to question his orders, he offers her an option to come with him instead, but before she can make up her mind, all hell breaks loose and they're fighting for their lives.

The Unusuals
dinner plans by [archiveofourown.org profile] handyhunter
Gen; rated G; ensemble fic; 2352 words
Summary: Eddie Alvarez knew better, he really did. He told himself to count to ten, to ignore it, take the high road... “Where is my desk?” he demanded.

Hee. This is spot on, feels like the show... only way shorter. (If I found a fic just like this one, but as long as an actual episode - I might spontaneously combust with happiness.)

Avengers:
can't carve a whistle by [archiveofourown.org profile] irnan
Gen; Maria Hill & team; smidgeon of Maria/Steve; 3564 words
Summary: Maria Hill's never found it easy to explain why she became a SHIELD agent, but she knows why she stays one.

Very intriguing character dynamics; I dig Maria's perspective on the Avengers and her neverending arguments with Steve.
(I heard rumors that in movies to come Maria Hill will take Coulson's place as liaison to the Avengers - I so hope that's true!)

Give A Girl A Moment And She'll Take You For All You've Got by [archiveofourown.org profile] tielan
Gen; Rated M (for violence maybe?); characters: Maria, Natasha, Pepper, Jane, Darcy. Also Clint, Tony, Steve, Bruce
Summary: Coulson had once made the observation that Darcy Lewis’ ability to beg, bribe, or bully people into her plans was almost a superpower in and of itself.
Considering she was walking down a tattered Tribeca street with four women she either barely knew or didn’t socialise with for drinks on a Friday night, Maria could well believe it.

Girls Night Out...

The Unusuals:
Stays a Secret Between Me and Me by [archiveofourown.org profile] BlackEyedGirl, 1675 words
It’s not that Casey is jealous of Beaumont, or that she’s ever seriously thought about Walsh that way. He’s her partner and Casey knows too many of his bad habits to ever think about him romantically. She’s tried his experimental cookery, for one thing. But before Beaumont, there was always a possibility that one night the two of them might get drunk and stupid in the diner after work, and Casey is just a little curious to know what that would go like. It seems like it might have been fun.
And, if you haven't watched the show yet but are curious what it's like: here are two clips I found on Youtube that give an idea of the quirkiness factor. The second one comes with extended Jeremy Renner shirtlessness. You're welcome. :)

The Third Son of Odin by [archiveofourown.org profile] vain_glorious (Avengers)
Gen; PG-13; characters: team & Loki; 7334 words
Summary: Loki takes a second shot at brainwashing Tony Stark.

Loki captures Tony Stark, brainwashes him via magic and sends him off to Stark Tower to kill Thor. So much for the plan. The execution of said plan... leaves to be desired.

Apophasis by [archiveofourown.org profile] workerbee73 (Avengers)
Natasha/Clint; PG-13; romance/friendship/partnership with backstory; 4364 words
Summary: Past and present collide in a village outside Novgorod. A story of endings and beginnings.

And one more Unusuals fic. I'm down to one unwatched ep. Why did they have to cancel this show? I wish there was more fic.
Five Pranks and One Time Walsh had Feelings by [archiveofourown.org profile] prettyasadiagram (The Unusuals)
gen; Casey, Jason and ensemble; 1715 words
Summary: The first time Casey met Jason Walsh, she was still in her hooker garb, tottering around on spindly heels. To her surprise, there was no leering, no “accidental” groping, just Walsh throwing her his jacket—New York nights are cold, but there was no way she’d wear that fur coat monstrosity around other cops—with a sardonic, “You always dress like that?” And that was that.

To stay on theme with yesterday's post, I have The Unusuals fic recs. :o) Talk about a tiny target group... but well, I read this one last night and it's so amazing, I gotta rec it:

Lies to Buy Myself Some Time by [archiveofourown.org profile] k8andrewz (The Unusuals)
Jason/Casey; NC-17; friendship/romance, post-canon; 17703 words
Summary: Crime happens. The perps are strange. He's got a thing for his partner. He keeps it a secret.

and this one's very cute and friendshippy:
the delicate art of partnercare by topaz
Casey/Davis, Jason/Beaumont; PG-13; humor/friendship; 1839 words
Summary: "Wait, wait," Casey says into her cell. "Say what you just said again."
"Come on, Schraeger, keep up here," Walsh answers. "I said, I need you to do me a favor and go by that high-end sex shop over in Soho and buy me a vibrator."
