Another fill for the fashion history meme:
for [livejournal.com profile] cornerofmadness, Spike in a Zoot suit. larger pic under the cut )
Preview:

And two more pics I still had in a folder but hadn't posted yet: Eliot, looking grumpy. And Nate with a hat, probably plotting something. Heh.

So weird, I just now got 5 Russian-language spam messages in the space of two minutes. All of them consisted of one harmless sentence, followed by two invisible gif counters that lead back to a site called zimnyayaobuv.ru/ (don't click! I doubt anything good comes out of that.)

What would be the point of that? It doesn't even link to that site, my view of the comment only registers there. Maybe it's the latest thing to drive up page hits for ad views?

The Blue Hair Job by Comfortably Red (Leverage)
Gen; PG-13; team-centric; Genre: casefic; 24,238 words
Summary: The Leverage team is called in to help an elderly woman and her friends, but there may be more to the job than they realize. What happens when the marks have plans of their own?
A solid team-y casefic, well-written and fleshed out with a good feeling for detail and interesting original characters!

This looks like a fun meme! Art meme from [personal profile] ilthit, snagged from [personal profile] softestbullet

eta: okay, I think I got enough prompts for now! Thanks everybody!

Give me a character and a time period from fashion history*, and I'll draw the character in said fashion.

eta: *or you can go further back in time, too

festivid rec: Fly by ??? (Parks & Rec)
Music: "Fly" by Nicki Minaj; Length: 03:37; characters: Leslie Knope & ensemble
Summary: I came to win.

Hell yeah rock on, Leslie! A wonderful vid for a wonderful character. It has so much heart! At first I wasn't sure about the song choice, but a few beats in...yeah, a great song for her.

If you love seeing compelling women on your screen and you haven't watched Parks & Recreation yet... well, here's why you wanna watch that show, condensed into 3:37! Has some spoilers, inevitably, but I think it's worth it.

(side note: recently vimeo isn't working for me in Firefox, don't know if that's a common problem. The vids run fine in IE.)

Tech Support by wontquitmydayjob (Leverage)
Gen; Hardison & Sophie; 1253 words
Summary: Sophie and Hardison met once before...

Bonus rec... today featured on DYAC: 10 Funniest Parent Texts From 2011. Your grand aunt just passed away. LOL.
I still got tears in my eyes.

In the last two weeks I raised my climbing grades from 7- to 7+ \o/. I suspect it has something to do with who sets the routes; some helpful soul finally set a few that play exactly to my strengths.
Someone finally thought of the little people. :)
(Not rec-related. I just had to share...)

Another Buffy rec; I'm enjoying a trip down memory lane...
My So-Called Unlife by HonorH (BtVS/AtS)
Gen; characters: Harmony, Cordy, Angel; humor; 3293 words
Very funny story. Set between S1 and S2 of Angel - a few months before 'Disharmony' aired, but the dialogue could've come straight from that ep.
"You know, I really thought you'd understand, Cordy," Harmony pouted. "Everyone from the old high school gang is so totally harsh now that I'm a vamp, you know, and Jeanne Montrose even keeps a bottle of holy water in her purse. It's so uncalled-for. Do you know what that stuff does to my complexion? I thought that you'd at least be nicer, since you're sleeping with a vamp . . ."
"I'm not sleeping with Angel!" Cordelia protested.
"Really?" Harmony blinked. "Why not? He's yummy. Hey, if you're not sleeping with him, could I . . ."
"No," said Angel
"No," said Cordelia.
Harmony slumped back into the chair again. "See? I'm, like, an outcast."

Still between jobs so I'm using the time to sort through my stacks of old fanfic... hundreds and hundreds of stories. Well, I'm reading more than I'm sorting.

Here's a lighthearted Cordy and Angel dialog fic:
First Aid for Vampires by Florrie (AtS)
Cordelia & Angel; PG (I'd say PG-13 for gory talk); 760 words; friendship/fluff/humor
“I could write a manual on ‘How to Care for Your Vampire... one hundred and one hints to keep your friendly un-dead vermin-free and happy.... ish.’.”
“No.”

This bit fell off the last post since it would’ve veered away too far from the main topic. So, taking a quick detour because I found an alternate way of creating a circle that comes in especially handy if one doesn't have any circle-creating tools at hand. It's also a bit more exact because it uses 12 points instead of 8.

The two methods in comparison:

details under the cut )

By the way, I found an interesting article comparing various kinds of graphical projection for use in RPGs

Today on DwP: how to construct a spiral staircase :)

(but we'll start with a cube!) )

Time to move on to actual perspective drawing so we can draw something besides single objects! Next up: 1-point-perspective.

found this in my inbox this morning and had to rec right away:
Girl Stuff by wontquitmydayjob (Leverage)
Nate/Sophie; characters: Nate (POV), Sophie, team in the background; genre: humor; 1216 words
Summary: Nathan Ford faces every man's worst nightmare: his ex and his girlfriend becoming friends.

"I don't want the two of you…you know…talking about me…"
She picks up her purse, rolling her eyes. "Well, fascinating though you are," she says, with heavy sarcasm, "Maggie and I are both intelligent, educated people with a wide range of interests. I'm sure we can find something to talk about other than Nathan Ford."

I just called a friend's place and hadn't even noticed it's past midnight. Or rather I was aware but I'd forgotten that not everybody is still up after midnight. Hope I didn't wake her up. Hope she doesn't have caller ID.
I'm so used to using email for dates and appointments, I'm out of touch with basic phone etiquette, it seems.

I made a bunch of perspective drawings for part 3 of the drawing series.* Now I only have to figure out how to explain them in a way that makes sense. I got a construction of a spiral staircase in there which I really have no idea how to convey in non-gibberish. It looks cryptic to me and I just drew the thing.

*Which reminds me, I posted part 2 on Christmas Eve, in case you missed it.

Well anyway, part 3 up maybe tomorrow. I have loads of free time atm since I have no work left, except one cover art which isn't greenlighted yet and a few prospective projects on which I can't start yet. I hope I can use the free time creatively!

The Dark Alley Job (And Other Time-Honored Cliches) by [archiveofourown.org profile] hihoplastic (Leverage)
Sophie/Nate; PG-13; 669 words
Summary: "I want to run The Blacked Out Supermodel." - for the Snogging Meme on LJ
Hardison doesn't understand the play, so Sophie explains: "There's The Bachelor and the Supermodel--"
Parker: "Oh! I know this one - they walk into a bar."
She grins expectantly. Hardison sighs.

The Zombie Apocalypse Job by monkeytwin (Leverage)
team with some Nate/Sophie; minor crossover with SPN; PG-13; 6,973 words
Summary: Pretty much exactly as advertized.
reccer's note: Due to the format of this fic some of the chapters are very short; to get the entire story in one file go to the fanfic downloader at FLAG, enter the story ID (6566093) into the top field that says 'Source URL / ID' and pick your format of choice.

Nicely creepy and action-filled. The story covers a longer time frame, showing snapshots of events here and there, and it brings things to a satisfying end. I'd love to read an epic 100,000 words version of this apocafic but these glimpses are already very entertaining.

Bonus rec: Leverage - Season 1 Official Recap

Because I'm all filled with show-love and the sudden desire to pimp my show. If you've been interested in checking out Leverage, this trailer gives an idea what it's about. (Almost no major spoilers) The current season just finished, what better time to catch up. :o)

Attention, Shoppers by [personal profile] amand_r (Highlander)
Characters: Methos, Amanda, Duncan. Joe, OCs; Mostly Gen with a touch of M/A/D; 10,765 words; Humor
Summary: Rollback in aisle three: gemstones, cheap liquor and pickaxes.

The story of how three immortals end up working at Walmart in order to case the joint. Methos' narrative voice alone is worth the price of admission here.

Oh, looks like LJ is back up after it was down all morning. I'm gonna go through my profile and see if there aren't a couple more journals I can follow on DW instead.

An appeal to fic writers: please, crosspost your fic! At least to one other site. AO3, ffn, DW, anywhere not LJ... just so there's a backup.

I hate to say it because I've been on LJ for ages and had some good times here but I really feel that LJ is going down the drain. Definitely headed in a drain-adjacent direction, between the constant DDOS attacks and [livejournal.com profile] igrick sabotaging the site from within. (And you know, the more I think about it, the less sure I am that's just a crazy conspiracy theory, considering that the features that were broken on purpose were those that benefitted community building and discussion. And that apparently the Russian-language users aren't any happier with the changes than we are.)
